worries about my baby

I have some worries about my pregnancy..I was unsure my last period, due to stress. The doctor used my estimation of the date I may have had one to get my due date. I went in for my first ultrasound for dating at what would have been 9 weeks and was told i was either 5 weeks or had mis-miscarried, as I did not have a visible fetal pole. I am going in for HCG tests over the next week and wanting to wait as I have read nothing is visible in the fifth week in a healthy pregnancy apart from the gestational sac and yolk sac, although I am unsure of the measurements in the ultrasound which may have been the cause for concern. I was alarmed when my doctor brought up a d&c (?sorry unsure on the terminology) to basically get the fetus as to avoid infection. I had to ask for HCG testing after she was mentioning miscarrying and that d&c. Am I wrong in thinking this is odd that the doctors have assumed i'm going to miscarry? Or need the procedure? I am wanting to monitor the levels of HCG and wait for the next scan hopefully everything will be okay in the next scan as it will be after the 6-7 week point the fetal pole should be visible by that point and if not then i am willing to pursue action for mis-miscarry. Im sorry for the long winded question i find it odd and am getting my questions about the measurements of the gestational sac and yolk sac answered today hopefully i will have a better idea about why they said such things this early. I will update after my appointment in an hour or so..Thanks, Jess.

I think for them it's more of a factual thing.  They look at things day in and day out and they think that they can diagnose by a few pieces of information.  If you don't know when you ovulated, then you don't know how far you are.  My boss and his wife were told they were having a miscarriage because they couldn't find the heartbeat and the hcg wasn't very high.  But come to find out they had miscalculated the dates.  She had a misscarriage the month before so they counted wrong, by 4 weeks!  So everything is fine. They thought she should be 14 wks but she was only 10 wks.
So my point is, if you aren't positive on the dates, I wouldn't be sure about their saying you may miscarry.  I would seek a different opinion.  Maybe if you go back in a couple weeks they will find the fetal pole.
My prayers are with you, I hope everything turns out perfectly for you!

Hi hun. I am sorry that you are going through this. If you are unsure of your ovulation date then it is possible that your little bean is not as far along as you thought. I would definitely wait and see how your hcg levels are going and then discuss your options. I hope everything goes well for you =)
