34 Weeks-Had Growth U/S today and worried!

My baby is now 6lbs!  She is in the 72nd percentile!  3 weeks ago she was in the 32nd percentile!  They said they'll do another in 3 weeks and we'll see then....but what if she continues to get bigger at this rate?!?  Am I looking at a 12lb baby?!?  MD office didn't seem worried...they said she will likely average out....but all my books and this site said she should be between 4.75 and 5 lbs. this week!  Uggh....anyone have experience with this?  Thanks in advance!

I know the feeling!  On Friday I was told mine was in the 71st percentile (just four weeks ago it was oly 58th percentile).  According to what I've read she is measuring 11-15 ounces bigger for the gestational age.  It doesn't help ease my worries that my DH was a ten pounder at birth LOL.  Let's hope these ladies are right :oD  I found they were pretty close with the weight with my last pg... DD estimated at 7 lbs 2 oz two days before birth and was born at 6 lbs 15 oz... so only a few off there.  I'm not going to let myself worry about it, really.  What will be, will be.  (But considering both my previous little ones were 37 weekers, I sure wouldn't mind if baby #3 follows in her siblings' footsteps ;o)

I'm on the other end - at 33 weeks the little man was weighing in at 4lbs. 9 oz. and they are concerned he isn't big enough.  It's always something.  I'm not concerned these things could be totally off, I could end up with the 12 pounder and you a little munchkin!

I was told by a 20 week scan my son would weight 7.5-8lbs, he was born 6 days over due and was only 6lbs 14oz.   This baby at 26 weeks was approx 3lbs 4oz and the normal rate of weight gain would only put her around 7lbs 4oz for birth- I doubt you will have a monster sized baby.

they say about 1lb per month for trimester 3, and around 1lb a week for the last month... 3-5lbs added depending on baby's intake. This doesnt include your weight gain. For example I have lost 8lbs, but gained 2 sizes and definantly have a bigger belly- the midwife I have believes I will have a smaller than normal baby so around 7-7.5lbs. Which is perfect!!

It seems to me that the ultrasound measurements are never quite right. My sister had a baby in May and they were telling her she was going to have a 10-pounder! Her baby weighed 7lbs, 4oz. So I would definitely say it's nothing at all to worry about! Good luck sweetie :)

third trimester weight estimates by ultrasound are only correct 13% of the time.....
so they are pretty darn inaccurate....

I would agree with smjmekg -- when we were at the hospital they said, well the twins weigh 4.5lbs (we had done an u/s in the doc's office before we went to the hospital) .....give or take 9oz!!!?!?!?  What the heck!?  9oz is over half a pound margin of error....quite a bit for such tiny people!!  I wouldn't be too concerned about it...the good news is, baby is growing up big and strong!

From what I've seen by almost all the posters with getting an estimate of the baby's weight...they can be off by a LOT. I've seen some ladies post that they were told the baby would be 9 lbs and it was 7...I wouldn't worry too much. I actually asked my dr about an ultrasound to estimate her size, and the dr said that estimating size with an ultrasound is like estimating the size with your hands on your tummy.
