Dental work while pregnant

So I went in for my first dental appt since I got pregnant, I knew i had a few cavities but I was not prepared to hear that I have cavities in 13 teeth, some of these teeth only have slight cavities some have cavities on 3 different plains. Since I am on state insurance they will pay for all work so my question is do you ladies think the dentist is just trying to make a bunch of money off me or do you think that he is just finding every minor cavity to make sure that my baby will not get sick as time goes on? He also said a tooth that I had a root canal on it not save able and needs to be removed too, other wise there could be an infection in it that could hurt the baby.

My next dental appt is 05/05/10 they will fill a few of the teeth, a week later they will do a deep cleaning.

On 05/05/10 is also my first ob appt where i will get an ultrasound that morning and dental appt that afternoon.

When I knew I wanted to TTC again, I went to the dentist and he filled everything that was even questionable.  He did this the last time too.  So we did lots of xrays and made sure everything was perfect before getting pregnant.  That said, I would do what the dentist wants.  It seems like everytime I get pregnant my teeth suffer and it's true if you have a serious infection that would be bad for you both.

I am putting off any of my work until after the baby arrives.  I am trying to be as natural as possible and the novacaine shots make me feel very jittery in general and I'm not doing anything to increase the babies heartbeat if I can help it.

Thanks for your info, your advice is great. I do have bad teeth. So I'm sure they need to do the work. I could not believe I had so many bad teeth. They said the only good teeth are the bottom front row. I know what an abcess tooth feels like i had two at one time back in Jan 10 it was hell.

Some dental offices will try to bill to make some extra cash, which is not right and fraudulant. I work in the dental insurance field- so I have seen it a few times.

Not to worry your dentist is probably trying to protect you and the baby, cause it is possible to transmit the infection as well as have worse teeth while pregnant. Get them taken care of as you can and keep drinking milk!! No soda! Red and Purple foods are also good for you as they have nutrients that help protect your natural tooth structure.

Some times after a root canal it is better to just remove the tooth than deal with the abcess or infections. Good luck to you.

I too need to make another visit.. I still have work in progress and now I am pregnant so it is more crucial.
