40 year old possibly having 2nd miscarriage

I am a 40 year old and am, according to a vaginal scan, 5 weeks and 6 days pregnant!!! (GP noted 7 based on period).  However I have spent the last two evenings in the A&E due to severe cramps and clotting whilst I have a pee.  Had scan yesterday morning and could see the pregnancy, but started the cramps yesterday afternoon and the bleeding - so partner took me back to A&E and had a blood test and doc examined me and noted that my cervix was still closed so he didn't think that I had miscarried at that point.  Still have some pains today but have noticed that my breasts aren't as tender (however if they are squeezed they do still hurt).  I know there is nothing I can do if I miscarry and have to go back tomorrow for another blood test to check hormone levels.  Anyone else in this, or ever been, in such a situation. Am petrified and trying not to stress out!!

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately the blood test last night didn't show good results, they were rather negative to be honest.  Have to go back tomorrow again for another blood test but I know that I've miscarried again, don't feel pregnant at all and I'm still bleeding.  I've taken a week off work and don't know where to go from here as I'm getting older now and my eggs aren't as good as what they used to be (shame I didn't meet my partner earlier in life, but that's life isn't it).  Hope everything goes well for you and as you are not bleeding I'm sure it will turn out to be fine.  All the best.

I am 7 weeks 2days today and have scan today so hopefully the can find the embryo this time. Iv had tummy pain all weekend (I'm in New Zealand and its monday morning here) but no bleeding apart from a lil bit when i wipe after going to the toilet sometimes. My arms all bruised from all the blood tests i have had and I have another today. I just want to know if everythings okay. Hopefully my hcg levels are rising. They were "concernably low" according to the doctor at my last scan. Im terrible at waiting, I'm also struggling not to tell everybody but my partner and I agreed its best to wait til 12 weeks. I hope your blood test has good results =) hang in there!

Thank you.  I'm resting as much as I can, partner won't let me do anything nor will my family.  Had a bad day yesterday - well last night, but today have really bad pains but no bleeding, except for some this morning when I got up, it is really wierd as doc said I would bleed continuously if I was miscarrying!!!!   Meant to have another blood test today and then will have to wait until a week Friday for my next scan to see if it is still there or not, should be 7 weeks and 5 days by then so if it is there should see a heartbeat (aothough based on period I am 7 weeks and 2 days now!!).  It's just a waiting game and I'm no good at waiting, want results asap!

This sounds similar to what im currently going through. Im approximately 7weeks 1day and on thursday end up in hospital with cramps and bleeding. When they did the scans the couldnt find the pregnancy sac but apparently that could be due to how early it is. I'm now getting blood tests every 2 days and scans once a week. I hope everything is okay for you *hugs* I understand how horrible it is being so unsure about this baby when you have miscarried before. Just rest and do as the doctors say =)
