A little embarrased...

i got my strep  b test last week, and at today's appt. the Dr said that it came back positive?! he said nothing to worry about since im having a c section anyways, and that if i was delivering vaginally then he would give me anti biotics.

he said strep b simply means that a small amount of bacteria collected in the vagina and that 30-50% of all preg. woman get it.

its' just a little wierd and i wonder why he wouldnt give me meds to clear it up anyways, i mean why would i want it there reguardless of which way im giving birth lol!

anyone else with the positive strep?

ya since the baby will not be passing through your vagina where the bacteria is located there is no need for the antibiotics... so dont worry about it many people have it

It is definately ok to have strep b.  I had it with my first child.  About an hour out from having him they gave me antibiotics in my hand and it was VERY sore because my midwife put it in the wrong place and then had to put it in again.  I think its funny I can handle labour without any contractions but I can't handle a needle.

With my daughter I didn't have it which was great but it really is nothing to worry about :)

from what i have understood, the only reason they give you the antibiotics is to prevent the baby from getting it because even though it does nothing to adults, it can be harmful for babies... so i guess he wont give it to you because its really not causing you any harm...
