I've been to several sip n sees after the baby... just tea and coffee, no gifts. Usually 6-8 weeks after baby and mom have settled in. They felt just like a shower, minus the gifts. In both cases, I attended the baby shower prior to the baby where the nursery was filled but after was a relaxing time to talk with everyone and ohhh and ahhh over the baby  :-)

No worries I know you werent trying to be mean :) I just thought you brought up an interesting point and I think it's neat that there are many different traditions associated with showers. :)

Oh no i get it...just curious that is all. i know lot's of people that have had it before. But i hear what you are saying about the eggs as well (not counting before they hatch) I guess that is where i am coming from. I didn't mean to upset anyone at all. I know it is really hard to read the tone of a message and sometimes something is taken differently then what is meant by it!

I think it is important to mention that it is very dependent upon culture. In Canada you don't do a baby shower until the baby is born. In the us you do it before. If you are Jewish you usually do it after the baby is born. So a lot of it has to do with where you live, your ethnicity, culture and religion. There are many different traditions and you have to do what you feel most comfortable with. For krichar it's after baby comes for lil lady its before :) both are valid.

For lil lady she is having twins she would probably find it easier no matter what her religion on culture dictates to have the baby shower prior to the birth of her babies.

I personally am having my shower after the birth since I am Jewish and according to my religion we basically don't count our eggs before they hatch. Lol you can take that one literally this time.

I don't like the idea of having the shower after the baby is already here because you will need the baby essentials from day 1! Most people put carseats/diapers on their registries and without those you can't even take the baby home from the hospital. People will definitely be seeing your baby once she/he is born. That's what the first few weeks out of the hospital is for - home visits :)

Just a quick question...What ever happened to having it after the baby was born? I always believed it was meant to "shower" the baby... and that is hard without a baby there. I guess i am just old fashioned. I just feel people want to see the baby...

I'm due February 21. I have one the second week of November, the first week of December and the second week of January. Dates were set to avoid holiday time as much as possible. I agree with lil... waiting too late could be a potential problem is baby comes early.

I think that early/middle of November or January would be the best time to have your baby shower. The good thing about doing it in November is that whatever you dont get at your shower you will have plenty of time to buy on your own before the baby arrives. The downfall is that some people might think that your having it too soon. If you have it in January that gives time for people to get out of their holiday funk and back to thinking about your new arrival. And then your belly will be in full swing and people will get to see your true pregnant belly. I guess it's completely up to you! Whatever is more convenient for you than that is all that matters since it's your party! I am due in February but am having a c-section January 9th so we will be having our shower in November. Otherwise it will be smack dab in the middle of the holidays or way too close to my due date. Don't forget, sometimes babies come early! Good luck and let us know what you decide to do.
