OT-birth control after baby?

Just curious what is everyone doing for birth control after baby?  I cant take the pill because any kind of birth control with any hormones aggravates my seizure disorder and autoimmune disease so we are looking into surgical options and since this would be my last Im ok with that.  Just didnt know if anyone knows of any non-hormonal bc thats new or what your gonna do, I know im nosey and BORED!

Although we did IVF to get pregnant in the first place, I did go back on the pill! Now the hard part is remembering to take it!

Well, while breastfeeding, you can only safely take 2 things... One being the mini-pill, and the other being an IUD. In addition, I have a blood clotting disorder that restricts me from taking anything with estrogen in it. So permanently, regardless of breastfeeding or not, these are my only 2 options besides sterilization (hysterectomy or vasectomy)...

Keep in mind, if you aren't pumping or breastfeeding at least 5x per day while on the mini-pill, it is only 87% effective. If you ARE pumping/breastfeeding at least 5x a day, it is 99.7% effective.

The IUD is the closest thing to sterilization as you can get without actually being sterilized. It is 99.9% effective as there is no room for error. If you plan to use Mirena, it's recommended to use the mini-pill for a month or two first to ensure you won't endure any undesired side effects. In all of my research, I've found that either you have a great response to Progestine-only birth control, or you have a very unpleasant response. Ex: Desired-Period stops completely, no weight gain, face clears up, etc. Undesired-Irregular bleeding, acne, weight gain, feeling bloated... I have been on the mini-pill for 2 months now and absolutely LOVE it. I feel great... like my old self, but without a period. This is the clearest my face has been since being a teenager as well!

Because I'm extremely high risk for pregnancy, my doctor is really pushing for me to get the IUD since it's almost guaranteed to be effective. In the mean time, I'm waiting to get a uterine dye study done to rule out any abnormalities that could've caused my 2 previous pre-term babies (22-weeker Hayden 12/17/09 RIP and 30-weeker Makena 11/28/10, now 11 weeks old). Once any abnormalities are ruled out, I'll be getting the Mirena IUD as I'm a great candidate for it.

Definitely talk to your OB about your options. Every woman is different and responds differently to medications. Good luck! Hope this helps.

I will probably go back to the pill (orthotrycycline). We only got pregnant because I ran out for a month, crazy I know, but I was on it consistantly for 7 years it worked great. I did try the nuva ring last year and actually got pregnant while on that. But we misscarried last february. So I went back to the pill and had a lapse in insurance due switching jobs and bam! Now we are expecting little Violet here any day now. God works in mysterious ways and we couldn't be happier. I just need to make sure I get back on something afterwards. I want to be able to enjoy seeing her grow for the next few years before we have another.

My dr. said it was much safer for him then for us.  I didn't get my tubes tied during my c-section when he asked pre-surgery because even though I knew she was really early I guess I didn't realize how hard the NICU process would be AND I thought at the time that I could still have another baby.  Now I wish I would have had them done.

I would say, that if you aren't 200% sure, don't get it done. I don't know if you have had to go through wanting a baby and having issues but that is the worst feeling.  The want of another baby but not being able to have one or it being hard...

Maybe keep looking into another option for another 5 years or so?

My husband and I  are looking into a vasectomy.  My husband will be 26 soon and I am 27 but this is our thid child (all planned) and we are adamant we don't want anymore.  We have spoken to a few doctors but we need to have a few more talks before we take the plunge.  I know we are young but we started our family young and we don't want anymore children wven with the odd chance we separated.

After this c-section we can't have another baby (have two beautiful babies and I feel blessed) I hate bc pills and with my crazy uterus I can't use an IUD.  Just had the talk with my dr. and he told me he can tie my tubes BUT he highly recommends that after two major abdominal surgeries aka c-sections he always tells his patients "it is time for the husbnad to step up!"  He said it is an easy $600-800 surgery for them and doesn't even require the OR or anything.  So hubby goes in soon since if I get preggo again I will have to have an abortion since the baby wont even make it as far as my daughter did and anything earlier then 32 weeks is not something I am going to risk!

Since we have 2 babies we are definitely using BC lol. I will be going on Orthotrycyclen pills. I was considering the IUD but it kinda grosses me out that something stays inside you for up to 5 years :S

We aren't using anything either. It's highly unlikely I'd get pregnant anyway (went through IVF first time) but if I did, we'd consider it a blessing. Also, we'll be doing an FET as soon as my body recovers and we feel ready so there are no plans to take anything at this point.

There is a non hormonal IUD available.

I will not be using any form of birth control. It took me 34 months to get pregnant and this is my first child, also had a miscarriage. So if G-d blesses me with another child I will welcome it with open arms. We had to do IUI and two medications to get pregnant with Ellie.
