Thank you all! We are on our third day at home and getting better by the minute. We did our first diaper catastrophe yesterday and managed to survive. It was a huge disaster and in the midst I knew I could laugh or cry, so hubby and I opted for laughing and we made it through. Then we had our first big breastfeeding issue but managed to work through that as well. I've found the calmer I stay (even when I don't feel calm) the more relaxed Annabelle stays. She is a wonderful baby and so easy, so far. We are all learning together and it's been fun. I couldn't believe how good TWO SOLID hours of sleep felt last night  :-)  But I did find a huge advantage to being up at 3 in the morning and again at 4 and again at 5. I get her all to myself. I don't have to share her with anyone and I love that time. She is very alert much of the time, even when breastfeeding. She will lie there and watch me when I talk to her. I just love her little face. Just cannot believe how truly blessed we are! Who would have thought a little girl would change our world so greatly in such a short period of time. Guess that's what I get for thinking BOY for nine months. HA!

Thanks, all! What an amazing experience this has been.

I was scheduled for delivery on Valentine's Day. We got checked in at 5:30 a.m. and started the work up. By 7 a.m. we were ready to go and just had to wait until my 7:30 scheduled c-section. I was fine until that 30 minute wait started and then the nerves really set in. Very emotional. They took David away about 7:25 so he could get dressed in scrubs and that's when I lost it. Poor nurses and poor husband... I was sobbing. But I walked to the delivery room got up on the table and had the epidural put in. Thankfully I had an awesome nurse who had calmed my nerves by then and talked me through everything.

My OB talked to me briefly, David was brought in, and we started. I could not believe how quick and easy it was. I stayed calm but was teary-eyed. David held one hand and my nurse held the other. At 8:05 a.m. the OB said, "You have a daughter!"  David and I were SHOCKED. We both have thought boy since the beginning. I honestly never even considered it could be a girl as stupid as that sounds. She was beautiful though. I saw her for just a minute but David got to take some pics while they cleaned her a bit. Then the nurse brought her to me and I got to hold her while they stitched me up. I was in complete awe. David was sobbing which of course made me cry more. Who knew we were so sappy  :-)

We went to recovery for two hours and got to keep her for skin time and breastfeeding. Both went incredibly well. Then we parted ways for 2 hours. But she's been with us ever since except for a few tests that had to be done elsewhere.

I'm tired because I haven't slept yet and I'm tender but weening myself off of the medication. It doesn't matter though. Every pain is worth what I see when I look at my precious Annabelle. She is more than I ever dreamed of.

We are scheduled to go home Thursday... then the real adventure begins.
