6 weeks and NO heartbeat: help!

Hi! I got a vaginal U/S today because I have a history of ectopics... anyways, my HCG levels are perfect and increasing as they should but today, the U/S detected a spot or blob, the dr. said it was in the right place (the uterus and not the fallopian tube) and that all looked well and I should come back next week to confirm... but there was no baby nor sac nor yolk visible, no heartbeat, nothing. Just that dark blob. He didn't seem concerned at all but then again, I didn't ask...

Now I'm reading all over the internet that no heartbeat at 5 or 6 weeks could be the signs of an inevitable miscarriage and I AM FREAKING OUT!

Should I be concerned? I have been feeling some twinges and little sharp pains in my ovaries...

Googling stuff isn't always the smartest thing to do... I know

oh if you are 5 weeks, then definately no heartbeat!!!
Only at 6 weeks they can see a fetus in the sac and at 7-8 weeks, a heartbeat!!!
DON't WORRY just yet!!
I am a freak too, and very much panicing at everything...
tomorrow is my first u/s, 6 weeks 1 day, not feeling much pregnant, only tender bbs, not much hunger or bloated anymore...nausia here and there...so wish me luck!!
I wish you luck!!

When I had my ultrasound done on Wednesday Nov. 5, the ultrasound technician said that I was probably no more than 5 weeks.  Unsurprisingly, I had ovulated more than 14 days after my last AF, which was on 9/27.  All I saw was a dot on the screen.  No sack.  Definitely no heartbeat.  Like your doctor, mine didn't express any concern.  I'm thinking we're about on the same timeline and now 2 doctors aren't too concerned about not seeing more in the ultrasound.  That's pretty reassuring to me.  Hope it is for you too.

you could have even ovulated a couple days later than what you thought.  some women do not see heartbeats til the end of their 6th week.  try not to freak out

Try to relax and NO MORE GOOGLE.  At five weeks they might not detect a heartbeat.  Also, as Joy said, you might not be as far along as you thought.  Even though you ovulated on a certain day, it can sometimes take up to three days before conception occurs.  And again, it sometimes takes the little bean longer to implant.  All things which  might have effected your Ultrasound.  If the Dr. said 'all looks well' then all must be well.  Try to trust him.  You'll get another ultrasound in a week.  And all will be well when you see your wee healthy baby.

My last period was Obctober 1st and I git my vaginal u/s on November 7th so I guess it's more like 5 weeks... I'm going to try not to freak out, besides I feel very pregnant, hungry, nauseated and tired... but thanks for all your encouragement... I started reading some other posts on the topic and THAT got me scared... no more Google for me...

I agree with the girls. You shouldn't freak out until you come back next week. Now next week you should see the sac, the baby and hopefully the heartbeat ( I believe the heartbeat can start from 6-8 weeks...)....I know that at 6 weeks , there should be a fetus in the sac, that's what my doc said. Last time he did d&c at 7 weeks because there was still not fetus in my sac.
In your case, if you are not sure yet how many weeks are you, then don't freak out and wait till next week...I know it is hard, my u/s is this Monday and I am panicing, cuz I have no symptoms and I really am hoping for the fetus....otherwise.....oh, I don'tw ant to think about it too early...
Keep us posted and take it easy for a week!!

Stay away from Google! Google can be a monster sometimes... Trust your doctor! It is going to depend on the technician's expertise and how advanced their U/S machine is. Most people don't see a heartbeat until closer to 8 weeks because the ultrasounds are not strong enough to detect it.

You could also be less pregnant than you originally thought, thus making it very obvious that you haven't seen anything yet.

I know that you're stressing and it's hard not to!!! I hope all is well. Your levels are doing great so I'd trust your doctor's reaction!!!

I have seen a few people write on here that not having a heartbeat at 6 weeks is ok and it could just take a few days for the heart to start to beat. Don't freak out stress is not good for you or the baby honey!

I would just try not to worry, 6 weeks could still be too early to see anything. I'm glad that your doctor didn't seem too concerned. I know it is hard but just try and relax until next week.
