Birthing Classes

This is my first baby - alot of my friends are telling me that the birthing/ prenatal classes they went to were a waste of money and time - what does everybody think about not going to the classes even though this is my first baby - or do you strongly recommend me going???

I felt like I knew a lot about the birthing process after recently a friend deliver twins but I decided to take a birthing class with my first son anyway.  It was not a whole lot of new information but I think it was worth taking.  I never really knew there were different stages of labor and when exactly you were "In labor."  There are always questions to ask even if its your 4th baby, so I say it was well worth it.  I definitely felt prepared going into the delivery room when my son was born.

I went with my first. I think it's nice to have the techniques just in case. With my son I ended up in labor for 43 hrs so lamaze really helped plus it was a closeness thing between me and my dh. If I make it out of my complications I will definately take the class again as a refresher since it's been awhile since I delivered. Good luck and I hope you have a nice easy delivery!

I never went either, I read books my whole pregnancy trying to prep myself. I was there when my sister had her baby so I had an idea of how it was going to be. Talk to lots of other moms to help prepare yourself physically and mentally. You will be just fine :)

I never went either as I heard from many that nothing could prepare you for labour and delivery.  I too read up on the topic and was very prepared mentally (ie. drug options, possible complications with the delivery etc.) but physically I had no idea what to expect so that was a surprise.

never went, I kinda thought the same thing. seemed silly.

I just read as much as possible about what to expect from labor and delivery and felt that helped a lot.
