I read that until 8 weeks most babies won't sleep on their own.  Colter is now 10 weeks and I am just starting to be able to get him to sleep on his own...only at night though.  I have even been able to feed him in the middle of the night and put him back in his pack n play next to me.  The older they get, the more sleep they require and they just have to sleep no matter where they are.  OK, so that is what I read, but Colt doesn't seem to require much sleep during the day at all LOL!  Anyway, good luck with Lily.  Let me know if you find anything that works :)

thanks, i think i'm going to go see my health nurse because lilly has also been getting some wind which a friend said that could be affecting her sleep patterns too. I hope you're right and this is just a phase!

My dd is two months old too and going through the same thing.  On a good night, I wake to feed her twice but most of the time it's 3-4 times a night.  My doc wasn't concerned.  He told me that she will sleep through the night soon.  Some babies take longer.

Tiger: She may be unsettled because you were away.  You are her security and she needs to know you are there.  It's really hard but I think it's a phase that will pass.  I would check in with your physician though or at least talk with a public health nurse.  Perhaps they have some tips for you.

I cant wait for the day that Lilly sleeps all the way through. I was doing a similar thing to you with lilly before i wenit to hosp and she was sleeping four or three hours in one stretch which was good enough for me. Now i can't put her down at all all or she will be wide awake. ive tried the safe n secure in bed with me, the crib and the cot. Sometimes she'll sleep in the pram but it has to be moving.

I put her down then when she awakens i try to pat her, or sing to her or stroke her face to go back to sleep but no success.

Do you think this just might be a stage of unsettledness for her?

"trying to *make* him feel like i'm still holding him"

I'm sorry, i know it is a terrible and frustrating feeling to not get any sleep!  My ds is 2 months. too, and at his checkup the other day his doc says, "He SHOULD be sleeping thru the night." It was almost like she was saying, I need to *make* him sleep thru the night, well, believe me lady, I would if i could!!

He is starting to get a little better (some nights).  This is what we do: after a bath, around 9;00 or so, i feed and burp him, then hold him but don't rock or talk or play with him.  Yes, he does fall asleep in my arms, but not while eating so i still consider that he falls asleep on his own.  It may be 10:30 or later.  I wait til he is sound asleep, about 10 minutes  then i lay him down and go to bed.  Sometimes he wakes up when i lay him down and we have to start over.. If i am lucky, he will sleep 4-5 hours, get up and eat, then sleep til 6 or 7. (HIs doc also said he should not need to eat in the middle of the night. but he wakes up hungry... what am i supposed to do?? not feed him??)
On a bad night, he will sleep 2-3 hours tops, one stretch, then wake up every 20 minutes or so.  = (
i think our babies will be sleeping thru the night soon, but man, those nights without sleep are rough!

p.s. I lay Cooper down in a "nest" of soft blankets, trying to kake him feel like i'm still holding him.  I know blankets aren't recommended to be in the crib, but this works for us...
