Losing interest in Formula

Hey girls!  Just wondering how much your LOs are drinking now?  i was under the impression that they should be getting a minimum of 24 oz in a 24 hour period, and Cash had been drinking 24 - 28 oz a day along with baby food twice a day.  The past week though it has been like pulling teeth to get 24 oz in him.  He looooooves his baby food and eats it no problem and I haven't increased his food intake at all.  He used to drink four 7oz bottles, but now he really doesn't seem interested in two of the bottles.  He will drink about 4oz of them and then start to play with the bottle.  He can hold his own bottle (but we still hold him while he drinks) so he takes the bottle out of his mouth and plays with the nipple or he bites on the nipple and pulls it out from between his teeth and gums so it kind of pops - and I guess he likes that noise bc he will do it over and over and over!  I feel like I have to force the rest of the bottle on him so he gets the 24 oz.
Are any of you experienceing this?  Or for those of you that have older kids have you experienced this before?

Zazou-same here, James is still weights about 18-19 pounds so he has not gained any weight but I think he is getting longer, maybe that is what is going on with Medina too she is growing.
I think our babies are beginning to slim down and if you and your DH are not big heavy persons she would probably won't be. I see it with James he might be taking  after  his dad long and slender, so will see.

OK thanks guys. I'm just a little worried because Medina isn't gaining any weight but she just won't stay still and is eating less, which I do think is due to teething. So I hope it goes back to normal soon.

James is eating 2 meals daily lunch around noon and dinner around 5:30 pm , he seems to be doing well with solids but hates drinking from his bottle, so I have to struggle in getting him to eat some but again it all might be related to teething.

It's funny tho. I never thought he was ever going to stop eating a few mos ago. LOL

Ok that's a comfort because I was getting real worried because she has slimed down as she is extremely active (was inside me and now practically never wants to be held). But she ate breakfast today and a bit more lunch than the last two weeks. I can see her two bottom teeth starting to emerge so I hope that it regulates itself again.

When Kaylee was getting her two bottom teeth in, she was absolutely miserable, running a fever the works, she didn't want any food and she wasn't eating very well.  I tried to keep her as hydrated as I could, but she just didn't want to have anything to do with it.  I kept giving her shots of water when she wouldn't take her milk. She didn't want anythign to do with her solid foods either

Jeremy has cut way down on the amount of bottles he has a day. I honestly think it's cause he just doesn't like the taste, plus he eats cereal and fruit or veggies 3xs a day. As the babies get bigger their appetites begin to normalize. My guy was going through a can of forumula every 2-3 days. LOL. No wonder he's so big! It also depends on how hungry he is if I give him 4 ozs or 6. He is getting the recommended amount but he is not a huge fan plus w his acid reflex and gag reflex it does not settle well with him. If it continues I may have to start him on milk and see how he does w that!!!

Medina is finally getting her teeth. She's been eating very very badly like about one-third sometimes one-half of what she usually eats, anyone else observe that when their babies were teething?

Kaylee usually has about 3 table spoons in the morning, She'll eat a full jar of veggies for lunch and half a jar of fruit. And at supper she'll eat a full jar of meat and veggies and the rest of her fruit. She's a little piggie.

You know I haven't thought about it might be that he is losing interest in the bottle as opposed to the formula...I'll have to try him on his sippy cup with formula and see how it goes!  Great idea!
How much cereal does Kaylee eat in the mornings?  The dr. told me Cash should be having three meals.  He has only been having two - so I'm trying to transition.  I have been doing oatmeal and fruit in the morning and rice and veggie in the evening.  Gotta add a lunch feeding now.

Kaylee isn't loosing interest in her formula, she's loosing interest in her bottle.. She'll drink formula out of her sippy cup till the cows come home, she hates her bottles for some reason.  Her pediatrician reccomends 18oz a day minimum as well, and she has her cereal for breakfast, fruit and veggies for lunch and a veggie and meat for supper.  With a snack in there somewhere.  As well as her milk.

Thanks girls!  I went to the dr today for Cash's checkup and shots and the dr said he is doing fine and that since he is almost 8 months now that a minimum of 18oz a day is what is recommended.  He suggested three meals a day with about three 6-8oz bottles spread out amongst the meals.

Lochlyn will play with his bottle in the same way when he is teething. He loves chewing on it! I just give him his soother and wait a few minutes. Usually he realizes that he is still hungry and takes more

James is doing the same thing we asked our pediatrician and he suggested to cut down the amount of solids (he was eating 4 oz 2x daily) so he could get his formula better at least 24 oz. We did it and he is now taking his formula a wee bit better, but at times he just plays with his bottle too.

My doctor told me at Joels 6 month appointment that now he should be getting a minimum of 18 oz a day.  He eats an 8 oz bottle, a 6 oz bottle and a 7 oz bottle throughout the day.  He gets 3 meals of baby food/cereal at meal times.  Maybe you need to increase the amount of meals that you are giving him.

Ya....they should get betting a min. of 24oz. per day but there are days that they will have blah days just like us.  Iliana just went through the same thing for almost a week and is back on track again.  Instead of feeding her twice a day I dropped it down to once a day so she can get enough formula.  She is back to eating 4-5 6oz bottles a day and 2 meals.  Is he teething??? Some babies don't have much of an appetite when they are teething or perhaps he's feeling a bit under the weather or just going to a phase right now.

I experienced the same thing with Anika when she was a baby.  I dropped a meal with her as well just until she got her appetite back.  Seemed and seems to work for us.

Formula continues to be an important part of their nutrition until about 12 months.  By this point, they should be eating pretty good (3 well balanced meals a day plus snacks and eating most foods).
