Will be induced at 37 weeks...

A friend of mine asked me the other day if I was having a vaginal delivery or c section, and I thought umm, vaginal...i guess lol. So when I had my appt at 31 weeks on Friday, I asked my dr...so I AM having a natural delivery right? lol (since we hadnt talked about it) and he told me, oh yes, as long as nothing changes, you will be induced at 37 weeks (due to high blood pressure) and for me to pick a date around June 18th. It was just kind of a shock to actually be talking about that already, and he seemed so certain of what would be happening, I just thought it was kind of funny how I had no idea and he had it all planned out. Just wondering if anyone else has already talked about what will happen. Also, has anyone else been induced? Was your labor any harder than it would have been otherwise?

I was induced at almost 37 weeks with my last. It was mainly because my water had broken, and labor wasn't starting. It wasn't any more difficult than going into labor naturally...and my labor was actually shorter with the induction than my natural labor. My labor was six hours with the first, and four hours with the second.

With this baby, the doctor is monitoring the size closely because I have 1) a history of big babies (my son was almost nine pounds at 36.5 weeks) and 2) I have gestational diabetes. He said if the baby is measuring over eight pounds at 37 weeks, he will induce me. No talk of a c-section yet. I don't want one, though. This is my third/last baby, so I'd like to avoid c-section if I can!

I guess I never saw you post on here before....regardless with my 1st I was given options and his pg was pretty much complication free towards the later half of my 2nd trimester. Like I said every dr is different. Most dr's evaluate your health and the health of your baby and then decide from there. Ultimately nobody has a crystal ball so who knows what can happen when in labor things can change in 5 mins but usually there is some idea of what is to be expected. Some dr's plan inductions other's make you wait until you are past your due date and then other's will schedule a c-section. I have many friends who elected to have a c-section with their first baby. Like I said different states do things differently too! At some point your dr will talk with you about your delivery! Good luck either way!

No, I've actually been on this forum since they started it.  I've actually been on the Pregnancy 18-34 forum for a long while too.  And I live in Charlotte NC.
This is my first child and of course I don't have the medical history that shows any complications or anything so the doctors obviously wouldn't give me a choice.  You, on the other hand, have had a couple of pregnancies so based on that it is pretty obvious that doctors would give you options based on your medical history.

Probably on my second they will.

How many kids do you have? What part of the country do you live in? All of these things are a key factor in the type of experiences you have in your pregnancy. My dr talked to me today about my birth plan. All of my pg's I was talked to about the route to take and my dr's have asked me what are you hoping for but talking to friends or family it's are you going to have. Not everyone is politically correct! Your experience doesn't mean that it's the only way! It doesnt' matter ! Honestly at the end of the day. Just like vaccinations you answered before your belief system is for you doesn't mean everyone else agrees. Just posting up my opinion just like you! I noticed you are rather new in this forum as well. This is an open forum not one person is a dr or an expert but just expressing their own personal opinion and counting down the days like you to delivery day!

My midwife nor any doctor has asked me how I'd like to deliver.  I think everyone assumes vaginal delivery unless there are complications.  I didn't think that doctors give you a choice, at least mine haven't given me a choice.  Not even the maternity coordinator asked me if I wanted to have a vaginal or a c-section, its not a choice like choosing breastfeeding over formula.
I'd probably be scared or insulted if they offered me a c-section which is a major abdominal surgery just because I'd like that over pushing not because there are real reasons why I need to have it.  At least, I haven't heard of anyone having a c-section because that was their prefference, mainly they've had it because of a complication during their pregnancies or during delivery.
I don't know, I think the question from people should be "What would you PREFFER, Vaginal or C-section?"  not "are you going a natural or c-section?"

Anyone who has high blood pressure consistantly has to deliver early. I am sure things will be fine..

I have had c-sections and a vag and they all hurt. I wouldn't pick one over the other. Ouch! I too have a low pain tolerance! Best of luck no matter what happens. I hope you have a pain free labor...LOL.

Mumita- People ask you what type of delivery because if you are a woman not having any complications in your pg you can pretty much decide what route you want to take. It's a common question to ask. I posted the question on this forum mos ago. It's part of making conversation and curiostiy!

I don't understand why people ask if I'm going "natural or c-section" I know that the percentage of a c-section is high (32% in the US) but its not like everyone has a choice on how they deliver.  Anyway I get asked that all the time, its usually what people ask me when they ask me my due date and if its a boy or a girl.

Anyway I asked that question to my midwife early on and she didn't say anything really, she said that over 90% of her patients have a vaginal delivery and to take the childbirth class and they will help me understand more about labor and delivery.

Yeah, her name will be Layla Alexis. Im hoping she wont be too huge since i will be induced...hopefully she will be 8lbs or under lol, i dont think im physically capable of anything more. I tend to have a very LOW pain tolerance, and I panic very easily, lol....so maybe when she gets to be 7lbs, I will ask them to quit telling me so I dont freak out, hah.

Congrats you must be so excited! Well my pg has been such a roller coaster it's hard to plan anything. My dr was very much wanting me to have a vag delivery would feel it would be safer for the baby and myself. However my baby is big last wk I was 28 wks and he is already 3 1/2 lbs and is 74th percentile for his age. So he is big. I'm going to my dr on tues to have another u/s I passed my gd test so he is concerned about my weight gain being caused from the size of the baby. If my dr does not up my due date I will most likely end up with a c-section. My first baby my oldest son was 9 4 so I have big babies especially my boys. My girls well the oldest was 8 11 and my baby was 6 12. My 2nd baby was a vag and the baby was a c-section. You just never know what can happen in labor. For now I don't really care as long as the baby and myself are safe! Good luck I hope you have a wonderful delivery!
