Diaper Changing BATTLES!

Jack started crawling a few weeks ago and now he's pulling himself up. It's exciting, but since he hit these new milestones diaper changes have become a nightmare! He just does NOT want to sit there for a diaper change. He will turn and twist and go bonkers on the pad and try to crawl off the table. He was almost falling to the ground so I have started moving the pad to the floor so he won't get hurt.
Diaper changes used to take a minute - just real quick - and now they're taking forever. He won't sit still long enough for me to get the diaper on! He keeps having "blowouts" this week and it's been such a mess. And getting pajamas on at night....SIGH.
When I get angry and tell him NO he cracks up laughing. It's funny in it's own way (what a little monkey) but it is getting pretty frustrating.
Anyone else having diaper change battles with their little one? Any tips!?

Layla is bad, but it sounds like she isnt THAT bad, lol. I give her something she usually doesnt get to play with to keep her attention, like a bottle of lotion, or the remote control, lol....something to bribe her with. However I can relate to one thing...the No's. She just started this today...when I tell her no, she cracks up. I will have the firmest tone and straight face and she will crack up STILL! Its kind of funny but I cant help but think when this will be a REAL problem. Sigh...

No juice for Jack. We don't know what caused the blowouts last week but they seem to be over - for now - knock on wood. He's dabbling in foods at daycare, eating some things off the menu with the other babies his age along with his normal baby food and bottles. Maybe he ate something that didn't agree with him! Maybe he's teething? Hmmm.

We've been giving him something to play with this week during changes and I've been singing, razzing his tummy, and kissing him to keep him distracted - and from turning around and crawling off the table! We've also started changing him on the floor on a changing pad! His dresser isn't big enough for him anymore. I feel like he's going to turn over and fly right off!

Aww congrats on him crawling that is great! Ok well Jeremy is so big that I really don't like using his changing table I feel like there just isn't enough room so I have a pretty big changing pad I just put on the floor. Jeremy sometimes fusses getting his diaper changed but that is usually at night when he is getting ready for bed. I try to distract him I let him grab a clean diaper or hold a wipe if he is preoccupied for him at least the change is real quick. I try to laugh with him and just redirect him if he bunches up his legs I just try to strainghten them or if he tries to roll over I just re roll him over. Nothing is quick and in 5 mins with a very active and alert lil boy who is extremely strong. You just have to make it funny and goes by alot smoother! I tickle him or kiss his face or sing to him I'm just always silly with him so he doesnt' get so frustrated! I hope this helps alittle bit. Take care!

Ps these diaper blowouts are you giving  juice to Jack?  I still dont' give it to Jeremy due to his bad acid reflex! It is really bad for their bellies sometimes and can cause loose stools etc. I have to be slow with what I give Jeremy since his belly is just so bad.

We have the same problem with Joel pulling himself up.  Now that he has figured out that he can stand in his crib if he doesn't want to go to sleep he just stands up.  Then he gets stuck and can't get back down so we have to go back in there and lay him back down.

Zazou- I read your post and is the exact description of what is going on with James. He has a mind of his own, he twists and wiggles and flips and gets on his hands and knees and tries to get up. So I have come down to mostly wipe his but standing upp and it is a mess. We use cloth diapers so you can imagine how it is to do this with a wiggly child.
He is still fighting to sleep , now he pulls himself up in the crib and shakes it, and doe snot want to lay down. I am going crazy girls....

Well I've been struggling for the last 2-3 months with Medina............still am!!! I've tried everything, she's so independant and strong-willed, she does what she wants. I sing, give her somthing to play with - she just turns on her belly and plays with it or crawls away. It is a battle with her. So I mostly change the diaper after cleaning her tummy down or standing because it's too exhausting. OR the only thing that worked with us (many times) was a hide-and-seek game. So I put something over her face and ask 'Where's Medina? Where can she be? Is she in the bed? Is she playing?' etc etc and she plays along. Good luck! But it's just a phase and he will get out of it at some stage.

Thanks girl. Jack loves the little fish toy for the bath tub that has holes in the bottom (it's like a cup to pour water on him that came in the whale bath tub). It's his favorite bath toy. I pulled it out and gave it to him tonight for diaper change and get into pajama-time and it worked! He was so excited to hold it he just gnawed on it and stayed put. Worked for tonight! So I think a toy does work! Let's see how long that lasts! I'll keep you posted. :)

I have these fights with our little one too.  He twists and turns and trys to get up.  Things that I have done that have helped is to give him a toy to play with while changing him.  I also sing songs to him that keeps his attention.  Hope this helps.
