Wowie, what a trip. Lucas was my second baby, dont believe anyone when they say seconds are easier! :P For those who read this and maybe put off, sorry in advance! but just remember, no two births are the same :P
So, wednesday i got the sweep at 2pm. was 2 cm, irregular contractions and spotting all day. Wished it kept up, went to bed + woke up on thursday fine although i had the show, it made me feel slightly alarmed + excited, there was so much! I phoned the midwife + asked if it was normal and she said yes, once you start getting contractions and they are about 10mins apart, come on down. A few hours passed and the irregular contractions began again, at about 4pm one every 15 mins or so but i thought it could all go away, as it previously had. kept myself busy, had a very relaxing shower but while in there i got contractions 2 mins apart, 4 mins apart. got out of the shower at about half 8 thinking we'll see how these next few go, and they happened under 10mins. phoned our parents to say we were away to the hospital. arrived there at about 10, got checked over, was still only 2cm so they asked me to stay in because it was late + they would check me over again in the morning. they took me + jay to the labour ward, the contractions slowed but did not get any less painful. at about 12am they started coming sooner, still so sore, got painkillers, they didnt help. the midwife came back around at half 1 to check me over and i was nearing 3cm + advised jay to go home as it may be a while before everything kicked off. at 4am i got checked over, i was about 95% effaced and still only nearly 3cm. the pains were about 5mins apart and very sore, still no painkillers would help. could not sleep, got about 20min nap at about 5am and no contractions for about 45mins. got up to walk and two hit me bad, it took my breath away. breakfast was served at about 7/8am, could not eat it. HAD to get gas & air, i thought i was about 7cm relating to the pain with cleo's birth, i only used gas & air and waterbirth with her. i text jay to say he mite need to come down asap as i thought lucas would have been here within the hour. i was out of it on gas and air by half 8 and i was 4cm. it was crippling me, very bad back labour i would not wish on anyone. brought to the delivery suite to wait on an epidural at 8.45am (oh, i had a clock to tell me time was still!) anaethetist said he'd be an hour, he had an emergancy. i cried, i could not wait another hour! got diamorphine injection, ment to be stronger than pethedine. it worked for an hour or two but the crippling pain came back. spent so long crying, i was exhausted! by 1pm still no anaethetist, he was called to another emergancy. why have only one? i have no idea!! for something that would take 10mins to do. i was set up for the drip etc so i was all prepared, he just never came. anyway, by 12pm i was analised again, i cried saying i know im too far on and yes, i was 9.5cm + pushing with no progress. up until about 2.30pm i was paralised with the pain and being shouted at to push, i was pushing, i had no energy left. all i could do was cry helplessly. i felt silly as cleo was soo easy but lucas was back to back. he eventually turned at about 2.30pm and it made pushing easier but no less painful, where did i get my energy i will never know!! i had a dry birth, did not feel crowning + head going back in like first time which was great, just the burn. i pushed and lucas was born at 3.29pm on 24th june. afterwards i was in amazing form, felt soo great!! i think it was because pain could not have been worse and it was all over so after pains were nothing. did not even cut so peeing doesnt sting- fabulous!! lol we got out of hospital at 12pm 25th june, so he was not even a day old yet. hes brilliant, hes gorgeous, feeding + sleeping well (accept for last night lol) but i am so happy and i never thought i would say this but he was really worth it all. i thought 2weeks of bouncing on a birthing ball all day he would not have been back to back but i was wrong. we are keeping well although i think i may have a sore bladder or something. waiting for the midwife to call out so i can mention it. cant wait to be properly healed to enjoy it all =)
Congratulations on you wonderful effort. I also had an extremely painful labour so commend you for going all the way with no epidural. You can tell Lucas the story of his birth one day, and he will feel very loved. Enjoy this wonderful time together. Xx
