Screening for Down Syndrome

Has anyone ever got screened for down syndrome for their pregnancy?  How did it go?

I'd compare the blood samples. But these tests are pretty pointless,  I can name 3 or 4 people personally who they told their babies were probably going to have downs based on the blood work and ultrasounds and all were fine. Stay positive...nothing is certain so take it with a grain of salt. They told me everything looks great with the first ultrasound. I told them I didn't care to know but they're doing them so they can keep results on file, and I love the high tech ultrasounds of the baby! My last one is this Thursday.

I was given the option.  With the first pregnancy it was just blood work. With the second I got a long 3d ultrasound and blood work so I opted for it =) We got to see our little boy for about 20 minutes!!

I did the testing a few weeks ago and the results said that the baby would be at a high risk for down syndrome. Both my OB and genetic specialist suggested that I opt for an amnio. Although I was scared, my husband and I were relieved to get positive results. A healthy baby girl!

You are right.  I've decided not to do the test.  I've heard too many stories of how results ended up being incorrect, so I've decided I'm not doing the testing.

Thanks for your support :)

Thanks ladies for your quick responses.  My dr. said based on the ultrasound the baby looked fine but they saw something in my blood, so they want to check it.  I think the baby is fine, but these dr.s sure know how to worry you.  I was given three options:  Not take the test, take a blood sample and compare or the last, conduct a amnio- something something.  He didn't recommend the last option.

I'm trying to stay positive.  It's my first successful pregnancy and I WANT (and I'm sure you all want) and care is that the baby is healthy.  I don't care about the gender.  I just wish pregnancy was easier- like my friends have it.

I'm on the last part of the screening. I honestly don't even want to know but I'm Dr. "highly" recommended it....bla bla. At least you get a couple extra ultrasounds on very good equipment.

I chose not to do it with my first, but I did with my second.  The NT testing and blood work were normal.
