Amniotic Cyst

Hello, I'm 19w4d and yesterday I had an ultrasound. The tech said she was a little concerned about some things and that she wanted to see me back again. When I got my appointment it was scheduled for 9 weeks from now. Nine weeks seem like a lifetime. When I was looking at the ultrasound I noticed her measuring something not attached to the baby and she typed "amniotic cyst" next to it. I am so worried and have looked it up on the search engines, but I am unalbe to find any information on that. Does anyone know what an amniotic cyst is and how dangerous that is?

Thank you so much for the reassurance. I have just been so worried about this. I have looked everywhere for information but there seems to be such little information about this.

I don't think that the placental cyst is going to cause you to lose the baby. If anything you might end up having this one a little bit early. I was wondering about how you were doing with this pregnancy and I am glad that you have gone past the point that you lost your last little ones! Definitely follow up with the doctor and I am sure that the next u/s was set up so far in advance because they want to see if as the baby grows then the cyst will more than likely shrink =)

Oh, I'm sorry, I just forgot to change my information, but I'm only having one. My quintuplet pregnancy ended in a late miscarriage last year at 16 weeks. I called my doctor today but he said that they would let me know Friday what the results were. The ultrasound tech didn't say anything about that. I just hope I don't lose this baby too!

I agree. You need to be monitored very closely! That seems like too long of a wait to me.

I believe they are also called placental cyst. From what I know about them they aren't really that dangerous. The only danger is if they get too big or don't resolve on their own they can cause fetal growth restriction. Also, if its near the cord that can be dangerous as well but its not common for them to cause any major problems.

What I am concerned about is your doctor not getting you in for 9 weeks! If you are having 5 babies you should be considered super high risk and seen more often then once every 2 months. I would consider getting a different doctor if I was you.
