With my son I started applying cocoa butter from the beginning. I started getting stretch marks around 20weeks. By 40 weeks my stomach and hips were covered in stretch marks. They were very dark purple and all over my stomach. The lotion and cremes did nothing for me.  When i talked to the doctor about why i got them so bad i was told that i wasn't drinking enough water. (which was true since it made me sick.) I've heard of others not using any cremes or lotions and still never getting stretch marks. I think it all depends on your body type and how it reacts. Apply the cremes or lotions whenever you feel you should be, there's no real timeline for it. Just make sure you drink A LOT of water to increase your skins elasticity. Hope this helps.

I have heard the same thing as the others - that getting stretch marks is genetic and cocoa butter or other creams do nothing to prevent them. I am putting on cocoa butter anyway, though, at least it will keep my belly feeling soft...

I agree with the above poster.  I believe that the only thing (if any) would be drink water. No cream is going to prevent you from getting stretch marks if your body type is going to allow them.
