Could be preg after TL

Hi. I am 27 and had my tubes tied during the c-section birth of my 4th child nearly 3 yrs ago. I have been experiencing irregular periods, ranging from heavy to spotting to off and on for weeks since his birth. I have undergone the pill again, provera cycles, and had an ultrasound in Dec. Nothing was unusual or different. I went last week for my pap smearand relayed my continuing problems to my ob/gyn who then did another ultrasound in his office. He saw something-it was NOT in the other ultrasound, I looked!-that he said was either a pregnancy(not a normal one) or a large blood clot. Did not offer anything definite, just scheduled me for a d&c. Since my appt., I've really been wondering which it is. I would like to know if I should worry in the future. How can I find out which it is? And if he was the dr who tied them(not sure which technique he used) why would he even consider I could be pregnant?

Just wanted to thank both of you for your answers. He said the D&C would have to be done either way. I saw the thing-whichever it was and if it is a baby, no way it could have made it. I think if it was, it had already died so I doubt the growth would be a possibility. I have my D&C scheduled for the 12 of May. I guess he's not too worried about infections. LOL.Would it show positive on a home test if it was a pregnancy? I really just want to know for myself. And so I know if I should worry more in the future...my guy is all for the vaesectomy now! They would know after the D&C? I would really like to know for sure, my doctor just didn't seem all that interesyed in talking about it. Seemed in his mind it didn't matter because I needed it done either way.

Since there is no method that is completely 100%, it is possible you could be pregnant. Getting your tubes tied is the most effective, even though you do run the risk of ectopic and molar pregnancies. By waiting longer for the D&C, you could see if there was growth, but at the same time, a blood clot or even a missed misscarriage can cause problems. They also would be able to tell you when they do the D&C

It happens, but it is not usually a viable pregnancy. Ask the doctor that is all that you can do. I hope you find your answers!
