Hello,
My last period was on May 28, 2010. For the past 4 months prior I was having my period every 32 days. I went to my first OB appointment on Monday, July 19 in which I found out I most likely have diabetes (Blood sugar is 300, Blood Pressure 143/92). The nurse I saw didn't do anything but tell me to return in 3 weeks. I ended up at the ER on Thursday after having very light cramping and very faint pink spotting (just a tiny bit). They did an ultrasound and said I measured 6 weeks 0 days even though I should have been 7 weeks 6 days. They saw a gestational sac and normal yolk sac but no fetal pole or heartbeat. My HCG level was 11, 495.
I saw my OB today who also concluded the same. She said my high blood sugar killed the baby and recommended a D&C. I opted to wait a few more weeks. She does not believe it could be from ovulating late. I have no cramping or bleeding and have actually been experiencing more pregnancy symptoms over the last few days.
What are the chances that I just ovulated late? Would high blood sugar definately cause a miscarriage? I have been eating better and working out since monday and my sugar has dropped to 245. I see my PCP on Aug. 2 to discuss options to get my blood sugar under control. My OB would not address it as she says it's my PCP who should see me since I am miscarrying. I don't feel like I'm miscarrying. Does high blood sugar in early pregnancy always result in miscarriage? I'm so sad and yet another part of me is saying to just wait, that the baby is there.
PS: When I was pregnant with my son in 2008 I had a similar thing happen. I was told for 3 weeks that my levels weren't good and they could only see a sac. I switched doctors which took two weeks and when I had my U/S there he was with a good heartbeat and measuring right on time. I had normal blood sugar and blood pressure then though.
