The pharmacist chastised me for taking Sudafed.

I had to get Sudafed from behind the counter and I told them no PE because I was pregnant, well all hell broke loose in front of everyone there and I felt like a TERRIBLE mommy.  She said I shouldn't be taking it, I told her my doctor said it was OK, she said try nasal drops, I told her I use the Netio pot of all thing and it doesn't help at all.

I have severe pregnancy rhinitis and it's affecting my sleep and my breathing so I take sudafed to knock the congestion out once every other day or so.  Although I took it a couple of times once one day and then once the next.  

Honestly, I don't know who is right but I've been given the OK and I've already gone through an entire box in a three month period!

My dr gave me a list, sudafed is on the list of safe drugs.

I took sudafed when I was first pregnant with Kahlan, in the first trimester, because I didn't know any better.

She's absolutely fine, healthy, developmentally ahead, and a wonderful personality. Oh and a genius....am I biased? nah LOL

But seriously...like brigadiva said all "professionals" have different opinions and none of them are right or wrong, persay...we really DON'T know the true effects of medicine on unborn babies...ANY medicines. we can speculate, but because they don't do human testing there's no way to know 100% all of the effects.

SO the fact of the matter is...as long as you trust your doctor isn't putting you at risk unnecessarily, just go with what they say and ignore the troublemakers.

If there is one thing I have learned through all three of my pregnancies it is that you could talk to three different "professionals" on what is "ok" and what is not "ok" and get three COMPLETELY different answers.  It really is frustrating, and stressful... as if we pregnant women need more stress?!?  And sadly, it isn't just between different professions i.e Doctor/pharmacist, etc.  It is also from one ObGyn to another.  You'll have one that says "A" is fine during pregnancy, and then doc #2 says "noooo, never take "A", "B" is much safer" and then doc #3 comes along and says "Never, EVER take "A" OR "B"" ...?!?!?  It is enough to drive a person mad!  

I agree that the pharmacist has NO business saying those things to you.  If they have a doubt about anything you are taking the ONLY thing they should even say at all is a friendly reminder to consult your doctor before use.  I, too, would complain about that pharmacist!  They have no right to do that to you.  As someone who deals with many issues and complications during my pregnancies, I have been put on antibiotics; pain meds; nausea meds; etc etc.  Of course, I would LOVE to not have to put anything like that into my body.  And of COURSE I question if they will find out they are wrong about these meds being safe for my baby and that there will be negative effects.  And I HATE when the doctors disagree with the other doctors or with me for listening to them!  But, the bottom line is there are soooo many issues with liability these days that a doctor is NOT going to tell you something is ok if it isn't for fear of being sued.  So, listen to your doctor, file a complaint about that pharmacist, and find a new place to get your medication :o)

Sudafed (both the psuedoephedrine and the phenylephrine) are said to be linked to problems when taken in the first trimester.

*I* took the psuedoephedrine in the first trimester of my first several pregnancies BEFORE that recommendation came out and never had issues.  I, too, get severe sinus problems during pregnancy and practically live on sudafed. I'd have told the pharmacist that it was none of their d*mn business.

If I were you I would have marched my happy rear right back into that store, or right then and there asked for that woman's supervisor/boss and had a nice colorful conversation with them. A pharmacist does not have the right to tell you what you should and should not be taking, their job is to give you medication you ask for, answer questions when you ask, and fill prescriptions, NOT to give you an unneeded OPINION on what you should or should not do during your pregnancy, and especially not doing so in front of other customers. That pharmacist was 100% unprofessional, and I'd have myself at least on the phone complaining about it. You should NOT feel like a terrible mom for doing what your DOCTOR (as in QUALIFIED medical PROFESSIONAL) told you to do. I'm sorry she made you feel that way, but honestly you should use some of those pregnancy hormones and do something about it. That was way out of line for her to do that.

if your dr has OKd it ten i would go with him/her! after all he/she has gone through medical school/training to get where he/she is! also if you look at the information leaflet for sudafed ten im sure you will find it says "consult your dr before taking if pregnant" not "DO NOT take whilst pregnant"! obviously if you look and it DOES say "DO NOT take whilst pregnant" then go back to the dr and point this out or ask for a 2nd opinion! hope this helps!

Get your doctor to write a note and sign it or give you a perscription... (If you dont gotta pay) to say you're allowed it, and the doc said you can have it,... Thats what I do...
