Thank all of you for your advice.. I've been trying to rest its just difficult with everything going on.. I'm actually on a break right now from school so I'm wondering how I'm going to handle it once I start back in mid-Jan.. my classes are Monday-Friday anywhere from all day or 12 to around 4 or so.. it just depends on the schedule..
I'm just so paranoid since I had the miscarriage in Feb, I would just feel so much better if I could see the baby and be told everything is okay.. I guess I'll just have to see what happens on my appointment..
I have Aetna insurance and I haven't had to pay anything yet. I just have to have my deductable, $2500 paid by my 7th month. My insurance allows two u/s and I had one done at my first appt. I still didn't have pay anything then. Stay well rested and take care of yourself. In my first tri, I would push myself through the work day when I had a headace, and it would get worse by that night. I'll never do that again...
For my first appt. my doctor always does a quick u/s. He checks the urine, does a pelvic, checks my breasts, takes a ton of blood and does an ultrasound. The only purpose for the ultrasound is just to make sure the baby is where it's suppose to be and check the gestation against my due date. It's pretty quick but it puts my mind at ease. But not all doctors do this as your can see from the different posters. But all doctors are different and do things differently. After that my doctor does the standard u/s anywhere from 18 to 20 weeks.
As for the nausea, I feel for you!!!! My doctor prescribed Phenegran for me. It didn't help me much but to some it's a miracle drug. I've heard of Prego Pops (suckers for pregnant women). I don't know how they work because I found out about them with this last pregnancy and I was past the sick point by then but I'd sure try them now. I also drank ginger/peach tea. It's made by The Republic of Tea. It's good stuff but very temporary. I drank a LOT of it. Look in one of the larger grocery stores in like a specialty section. Maybe check by the coffees. But when I'm pregnant, even grocery shopping is a huge chore. Even looking at all the food makes me sick. You may also want to try Peppermint icecream. It helps some and Blue Bell sells it around the holidays so you should be able to find it now. But the ice cream shops like Baskin Robins and Marble Slab, etc. sell it all year round. It tastes good. I think it will help you some. And the calcium is good for you and the baby.
The fatigue....The only suggestion I can give you is to try really hard to take your vitamins and rest every chance you get. That is exactly what I do when I'm pregnant. Like the other 2 posters said, there will come a time when sleep will be really difficult for you. Even trying just to get comfortable will be a challenge.
The baby is fine and will be fine. You just take care of yourself. Hopefully this will only last for the first trimester but of course everyone is different with the time also. I really hope you feel better soon. I feel for you. It's awful I know. Take care and keep us posted!!
morning sickness/all day long sickness... Mine lasted until 6 months! Some of us are just lucky that way. The old saying goes that the sicker you are, the healthier your baby is. My remedy - Zophran! When you go to your OB, if you have a prescription drug insurance plan, beg him for a script for it. It's 100% safe for pregnancy - in fact it's just about the only anti-nausea that is. It was formulated originally for people undergoing chemotherapy to help curb the sickness brought on by that - it's good stuff! However, without insurance it is a little pricey, so, ask about it first.
Chewing ice will help to keep from getting dehydrated, as well as 2 tablespoons of Gatorade every 15-20 minutes to keep your electrolytes up. The Propel water is ok, but right now your body needs that extra sugar from the gatorade - it will absorb and be used faster.
As far as ultrasounds go, the only reason you would have one any earlier than 18 weeks is if they suspect any sort of problem. Unfortunately nausea is not generally considered a problem - in fact it's pretty much the expected norm. ;}
And, fatigue? All part and parcel. If you can, sleep as much as you can while you can now. There will come a day when no matter what time or how tired you are you won't be able to sleep. Like LosingMyMindInGA said - your baby is just taking all of your extra energies and nutrients. Working in a hospital, I have access to lots of drs and asked many similar questions. One resounding answer was "don't worry. that little kid is one tough cookie!" Just eat what sounds good. If it doesn't sound good, don't even put it near your mouth. You'll learn what works and what doesn't. good luck!
Most likely on your first appt they won't do an ultrasound...they may schedule you for one tho. Generally your first appointment will consist of a pregnancy test (either blood or urine depending on doc), he may do a pelvic exam to check your cervix and measure your uterus. Then he/she should ask you some questions etc. Some doctors will do the full out first ob on your first appt which may even include a pap smear....some will do a general exam and then schedule you for a full OB exam.
As for your symptoms...my best suggestion...get as much rest as you can, if you are able to nap...then by all means do so. If your nauseated don't try to eat more than you feel like. I've read where they say to eat small meals and it helps...but not for me...it made it worse. I just ate what I could, when I could and left it alone. Lifesavers Pep-o-mints help me a lot. You CAN take acetimenophen (tylenol) for the headaches but stay away from ibuprofen (motrin) and any type of aspirin.
As for the baby...I'm sure he/she is taking it just fine. Remember, the baby will pull nutrients from YOU in order to nurish itself so if you think about it...Baby is doing great..YOU are the one not getting the nutrition. It will all even out.
