marijuana for HG

Hi guys, new girl here.
I have been through 3 really bad pregnancies due to hyperemesis gravederum. My second pregnancy I almost died several times due to major dehydration which almost caused kidney failure.
My husband and I really would like another baby but the fact is HG doesn't go away so I know this is going to happen again. I have been reading how marijuana is the magic cure for HG but I am curious to know what others think. At this point I will try anything if it works. I can't lose my new business because of hyperemesis. I was on so many drugs my last pregnancies that were prescribed by my doctor. None of which worked. ANd none of them were good for the baby or myself. If weed is a cure wouldn't you do it too? I've heard it has no lasting effects on the baby. I can't say that about the steroids they put me on for vomitting with my 2nd child. I think it stunted her growth because she is 6 years old and is the size a two year old. Now she need growth hormone theapy. I know it was from the steroids so I don't want to take those again. And zofran is too strong as well. I was on a zofran pump and that didn't even help/ My body became immune to the medicine within just a few days. If i do get pregnant weed seems to be my only hope. What does everyone else think?

not HG, just really bad M/S... I still throw up on occasion. I take a med. also, buut it makes me SUPER sleep.

And it has been proven that it helps with M/S and HG... but not enough studies have been done to test the different preparations (pill, tea's etc.) on it.

I decided I'll make a tea to try and see how it helps... it'd also help my legs, I get severe swelling that with my skin problem causes blistering.. etc. and I think it would help the pain and be safer than Vicoden which they have me on for 2-3days out of the week as needed.

I haven't tried it yet, and if I used it and it worked I'd keep it to 1 maybe 2X a week and the last 30 or so days I'm pregnant I won't use it at all.

did you have hyperemesis gravaderum? Or was your morning sickness just really bad? There is a major difference...m/s goes away eventually and HG doesn't. It is an allergic reaction to pregnancy. Anyway, I look into new meds all the time and so far it's just the same old ones like zofran..which I took. And phenergan...which I took...then the extreme meds like steroids...which I also took. The steroids work but you can only take them like 2 months at the most then they ween you off of them. Marijuana that i would be able to get would be clean because I know the guy I'd get it from, but its still illegal and I wouldn't risk jail of course. I have 3 kids already that need me at home. I just think that if it does help people get through HG then maybe more research needs to be done.

Hmmm.. I agree with babyscience, maybe check for new treatments of Hyperemesis? there could be SOMETHING out there.. there has to be. I know how bad it's seemed on days when my med's don't work (which happened ALOT)... SO I know it's gotta be horrible for you.

I would discuss everything with your Ob/gyn and see what they say, maybe they have new drugs or treatments out there.  I wouldnt want to risk my life if I were you, unless you never for sure something could help you.  Maybe finding a surrogate could be a good option for you if you really want a biological child, or if you dont mind adopting, think about that!  Just a thought!

ya know....it is illegal where i live so i wouldn't risk losing my kids just to do this. If it was legal I think I would definately try it but I don't think it will ever be legal where I live. Maybe I just shouldn't risk having another baby. I should tell everyone that this is not a lifestyle for me. It just sounded like a reasonable option to a situation that gets really scary for me. You can't imagine how bad hyperemesis can be and how wonderful it would be to have one normal happy feel good pregnancy.

Hi, I'm martika! (cindie) lol, and you'll see that I got PLENTY of different opinions on my thread... BTW.. I never made it clear on that thread, but before just getting it off the street or whatnot.

I'll be contacting a doctor in my area about it... good thing for me, the majority of the m/s had lightened up. (as long as I dont eat much at 1 time.) I live in Cali where it's legalized.... so, that would be my FIRST option for it. (I do have a friend who's bf grows it and it's clean.) but knowing that I'd make sure not to smoke it within 30days of giving birth so it could get out of your system.... lol (as far as I know they drug test you before getting out of the hospital w/baby.) Still.... doctors know best.

Yes please read the other post and as you said it was la ife threatening condition for you, I would REALLY think about having anymore babies.  How do you know this would even work for you anyways....and if it doesnt then you are back to square one.  And if you have other children to think about you may not want to risk your life again.

I dont know if this will help you or not but,,,  One of my Neibors and yes it was a neibor and not me LOL..  smoked pot throughout both of her pregnancy's and both of her daughters turned out fine.  
The bad part was she got arrested for buying it and her daughters were taken away.  They are 7 and 3 now and she is still fighting to get them back.

I don't know where you live but some places doctors can prescribe marijuana. And I believe it should only be under a doctor's supervision that you should do it because there are no studies done to study the short and long term effects of marijuana use during pregnancy.

Someone made a great point on the post sweetangel was referring to. They said that if you buy it off of the street, you don't know what it could be laced with. And if you grow it you run the risk of being caught by police.

I really hope you're able to have another baby! If you are unable to get a prescrip there's always adopting or foster care so that those without families can be blessed to have a family!

Check out martikadragoons post about marijuana and pregnancy and you will see how everyone feels as I do think that mostly everyone posted their thoughts...unfortunately, this topic has just been discussed (although for morning sickness) and I don't think you'll get many posts...check it out...good luck....I'll bump the martikadragoon thread...
