for already moms/natural labor

I'm considering trying a natural labor. everyone tells me I'm crazy and to just go for the epidural at the beginning. is it really THAT bad?

It's a "mental challenge". If you allow yourself to believe that you can't do it you won't. Go in there with the mindset "I can do it" and with every pain you will have your baby soon you will be fine.

Good luck

I had my baby naturally and it wasn't that bad. At some point I did feel like I was going to give in and get the epidural but 30 mins later I had my baby. Walking before going to the hospital, as well as practicing with my breathing helped a lot. I was only in labor for 4 hours.
You should definately try it; however, it wouldn't hurt to keep an open mind about the epidural. Everyone is different. Good luck!:)

I never had back pain after getting my epidural . And that's been almost 14 months ago . I tryed for natural labor but I didn't dilate past 3.5 cms so I had to get the epidural cause I had a csection the next day .

I got induced with my son & did not choose to get an epidural . Let me tell you right now there will be Ted when you think about it ! Labor is paaainfull (Especially if you get induced) . But like late said this is what our body's are made for . It is possible & after baby's out pain is literally GONE . Excerpt for the aftermath down there :( I think you should try it . I'm planning on doing it natural again with this baby . If you have slot of support & tell your nurses that's your plan , they'll do everything else they can to comfort you without it . You need to be mentally/physically strong & have good support if its something your thinking about . But deffffff worth it !!!! Good luck to you & your baby !

Ive gotten 2 epidurals and had good experiences both times. Ive tried without but wasnt going to refuse if I felt like I wanted it though. Ive never had any side effects but took a class on the epidural and knew what could happen. If you want natural go for it and dont letmothers opinions influence your decisions.

@kate32324 thanks! that's definitely something I needed to hear. I've researched it but it's good to get feedback from someone with experience

Yeah I'm really wanting to do it natural but I'm not going to refuse an epidural if I need it. I just don't understand why everyone is so set on epidurals!

No it's. Your body can handle it :) it's what it's made to do. The epidural leaves you with a back pain when the weather is cold. Or just plain back pain. One your baby is out the pain is gone. It really isn't that bad at all. I did it all natural with first and plan in the same With my second due in sep.

Not already a mom but don't let people talk you into something you don't want! That's awful. Everyone reacts to pain differently! I think you should try a natural labour, good on you for being strong enough to :)
I'm going to try for one too, just know that the epidural is an option if you need it.
Good luck :)

I was wondering the same thing I got the epidural with my first because I was being induced and the contractions were coming do fast and some 2 at a time the doctor recommend tgat I get it to try to calm my contractions. But I am currently pregnant with my second and really want to go natural.
