Antibiotic and fertility

Hi everyone,

I am a 30 year old man. I was diagnosed with prostatitis and my urologist prescribed amoxi-clav 3 time a day for 6 weeks. Me and my wife planning to have a baby next year, I am wondering if the antibiotic I am taking affects my sperm DNA. Or should I wait until finish the treatment to make sure everything is fine?

There has been some discussion about antibiotics affecting the amount of and motility of sperm in males when taking them. There is nothing definitive nor is it something most really work about. You are trying for a baby next year. There is no reason to suspect that taking Augmentin now would play any negative role in that. If you have a reason to take an antibiotic, take it. I would not worry about next year at this point or that it will somehow impact development of a future child.
