irregular first period after miscarriage

i had a miscarriage at the end of july after 5 weeks.  i was bleeding for about a week and a half.  i had an ultrasound and they said that i had lost my baby.  in the last week of august i began to notice painful cramping and light bleeding, which became heavier and heavier over the coarse of five days.  then the bleeding stopped but the cramping stayed strong.  it has been about nine days since these symptoms began and about four days of just horrible cramping.  is this my first period?  how long will it last? what should i do?

I am very sorry to hear about your miscarriage.  I do know that the longer you were pregnant the longer it can take to get your period after a mc.  But then again all women and all pregnancies are different.  It could be your period or it could be that you still have something left inside that could be causing some infection and bleeding.  If the bleeding starts up again i would go and check with your doc as stop and start bleeding and cramps can be a sing of infection.  It could also just be that you are having a weird period as they can take a while to get back to normal after a mc and pregnancy.  Have you been activley TTC again? Have you taken a hpt?  I would keep an eye on things and see you doc if it continues for much longer.

So sorry for your loss.  I agree with sweetangel7, just be patient with your period.  I had a miscarriage at 15 week in Sept. 07 and had a D & C.  My period didn't show up until almost 8 weeks after the procedure.  Then, the next period took about 6 1/2 weeks, then 5 weeks.  I got pregnant again in Feb. 08 only to miscarry at 6w4d in March 08.  I had two periods after this miscarriage.  The first one showed up about 6 weeks after I miscarried and then the next one showed up about 6 weeks later.  Then, I got pregnant in June 08.  So... yea... your periods will be totally out of whack for a while.

If you are TTC, you might consider using OPKs.  I used these in Feb. 08 and they did show me when I was going to ovulate.  Good luck and keep your head up... it will happen :)

First of all, I am sorry for your loss.  Be patient with your period...this bleeding could be your period or it could be passing tissue etc.  Did you get a follow up ultrasound to be sure you passed everything?   No one knows how long your period will be...some women get regular right after a mc but that was not my case...I had my mc on December 26 and I bled until January 1st'ish...then I went 46 days without a period...I thought I was prego again!  BUT it was just my body being cooky from the mc.  Then I had a 35 day cycle then it went to 27 then it went to like 30 then 28...We ttc for 7 months and are finally now 2 months pregnant.  Hang in there!
