5 months pregnant and looking for job

This may be OT but I wanted to get some opinions on this. My unemployment will be ending in 4 weeks and I am looking for a job. My question is I am 5 months pregnant and I can hide it if I go on interviews but do I have to tell them I'm pregnant? I am only looking for part-time work. What are your feelings on this?

I am in england and I'm not tooo sure if the rules are different but if you can hide it then hide it and in a few weeks be like I've just found out I'm pregnant and blag up you didn't know if its only a part time job, but make sure its something like office work! BUT working in an office myself until 8 months pregnant there are certain Health and Safety checks that need to be taken out and risk assessments that need to be followed up, especially if you're pregnant and something happened to you on their property and for example you lost the baby (not saying you will if you get a job) but there are some things to think about for example some Health and safety for an office is you desk and you chair and special things for your laptop like a stand and more frequent breaks and things! Although it might be harder to get work if you delcare you are pregnant! But a lot of risk assessments and things need to be carried out to cater your needs especially pregnant if that makes sense? Xx

This is the second time I'm going through needing a job and being pregnant. I'm 17 weeks tomorrow and unfortunately my belly is already looking like I'm over 5 months pregnant so I cannot hide it. It's very hard. I have tried. But then I think about needing time off for doctor's appts ect. It's just a sticky situation. Good luck though! I think a temp service is a good idea though!

Thanks for your responses. I do not want to come off as a sneaky person because I am not I am just desperate right now to find a job because my unemployment will be ending this month. I have rent and other expenses to worry about. If I go on an interview and I say "Hey by the way I'm pregnant" I know they will not hire me.
In fact the reason I am on unemployment is because I was laid off after I told my job of almost 4 years I was pregnant during my last pregnant almost 2 years ago. I took them to court but they had the bad economy as their excuse so I really didn't win anything.

I thought the o.p. was asking if a person goes on a job interview knowing that she intends to leave the job in a short time if she gets it, should she say anything.  If all she is asking is whether it can be hidden and whether she is legally obligated to reveal she is pregnant, what alaysha says is true, you're not obligated to say anything.  (After all, you don't KNOW your pregnancy will last, etc. etc. etc.)  But if she is interested in the question of whether it is fair to hide something that will probably materially affect her ability to do the job, that is where my answer suggesting temping comes from.  That way, a person can take a job without feeling she would have to lie or hide facts.

With my first I got hired when I was 4 months pregnant and then just didn't tell them. You aren't obligated to tell them and even though they can't not hire you for being pregnant they will probably find some reason not to since they know you'll only be there for a little while anyways.

I'd start doing temp work, like with Kelly Services.  That way you don't fool an employer who is counting on keeping the person he or she hires for at least a few years, and you still can have income.  A hiring party would feel pretty ticked off if you had to quit 4 months after being hired, and there's always the chance you'd have to go on bedrest or something like that and would be leaving your new employer high and dry.  I guess it also depends on how hard it would be to fill a job that you got, if you left unexpectedly.

Ooooh.  That's a tricky one.  On one hand you want the job and telling them you're pg may deter them from hiring you.  (I'm not sure how the discrimination act works for pg women.)  On the other hand you don't want to get hired and then spring this on them.

I personally, though, would do what I could to get hired.  Show them how well you do your job and then after a few weeks let them know you're pg.  Hopefully by then they'll see you as a hardworking individual and wouldn't want to let you go when you have the baby.  And it's also a part time job so hopefully they will be able to deal with it.  Good luck!

You do not need to disclose that you are pregnant. It is totally up to you if you want to tell them or not. Seems you are looking for part time I wouldn't be as worried as if you were trying for full time. You need to do what is best for you right now.
