Cervix pain and mucus plug?

Im currently 31 weeks and for almost 2 weeks i been getting really sharp stabbing pains in my cervix that makes me jump and catches me by surprise...just a little after those first started i lost wat i think was my mucus plug it was like a hard boogery membrane...my discharge didnt change throughout my pregnancy so i dont think its that...my baby has been head down for a few weeks now...what does and of this mean..thanks

it means your body is preparing to give birth. you can feel those twinge pains in your cervix for weeks, and your mucous plug also regenerates. nothing to worry about unless you're having consistent contractions
