I know this is *way* overdue, as the original poster already has had her baby, but I wanted to raise awareness about the problem she was describing!!
I suffered the same pains with my 2nd child, and was told it was "normal" by my OB. It was incredibly painful to roll over in bed or do ANYTHING that required lifting one leg: walk, climb stairs, even put on underwear or pants. I had to sit down to put them on. I had CONSTANT pain radiating from one knee up in a rainbow down to the other knee. It felt like I had been hit with a hammer in between my legs, too. I described it to my doctor as feeling like my pelvis was about to CRACK in half! THIS IS NOT NORMAL PAIN!!! It's a condition called SPD, or symphysis pubis dysfunction. Basically, the hormone relaxin causes normal separation of the pelvic bones at the center (the SP) to allow baby to pass through. With SPD, the bones separate too far and too early in the pregnancy and the muscles and ligaments are strained trying to keep it together. Some women are in so much pain they are put on crutches or in wheelchairs. It is more likely to happen to you if you already have back issues, particularly with the SI joint. (My pelvis is twisted (not just tilted) so my SI joint was already unstable to the point of needing physical therapy for all 3 pregnancies.) Furthermore, doctors will sometimes give you advice to put a pillow between your knees, which gives relief to normal pregnancy pain and discomfort, BUT THIS MAKES SPD WORSE! Thank goodness my new doctor for my 3rd pregnancy recognized it for what it was. If it's caught early enough, physical therapy can help...otherwise, you just have to deal with the pain until delivery.
Good luck to everyone, and please, if you read/hear anyone else describing their pain like above, recommend that she be evaluated for SPD...just in case. =)
At this stage in pregnancy, everything will be unbearable as baby is big and putting pressure on everything, sleeping almost becomes a thing of the past. Hang in there though, you are ALMOST there! It will happen very soon, and baby will come when ready. Inducing before baby is ready is not good. Full term is 40 weeks and some babies need to stay in there that long because every baby develops differently. At this point, if you can manage it, go for a walk or bounce on an exercise ball, and do some light stretching, if nothing else it will help just stretch things out and get you ready for when you do go into labor.
I would definitely ask your doc to check you to see if you are dilated at all.
I wouldn't say for sure they'll admit you at 4 cm. I was 4 cm dilated when I went into the hospital in active labor and they made me walk and refused to admit me until I was 5 cm. Also unfortunently most places wont induce unless for medical reasons or after 39 weeks. At your next appointment you can ask for a membrane sweep. If your body is ready for labor (and I mean really ready for it) it can jump start it. I had one some at 38 weeks and went into labor within 36 hours.
Complain!! Go to ur doc tell her how unbearable this pregnancy is.. Tell her u can not take it any longer.. Cry and cry some more.. Tell her u want induced.. Also are u dilated at all.. If u are dilated to a four the hospital will admit u just go in say ur having contractions but b ready to walk a ton. That's what they will
make u do.. On my last pregnancy I would go to my ob like an hour or so early and would walk/run the neighborhood bc I knew she would check me.. And everytime u get checked there's a good chance to dilate u more or even better break ur water.. That's the only time my water has ever broke (during being checked) so of u haven't got checked yet asked to b.. Then u will know how ur cervix is.. And like I said if ur at a 4 and go to the hospital with "pains" they will admit u.. I'd walk a whole bunch b4 going.. (that makes contractions come) I know ur in pain but this will also help with labor and delivery! Good luck let me know how it all works out!!!
Speak to your dr about this maybe there is something they can do to help. Hang in there delivery day is coming soon
You are very close to D day - and baby is getting very big and heavy - have you spoken to your doc regarding this??
what did she say?
