Doing some reading and came across Lotus Birth?

Has anyone ever done or considered a Lotus Birth ? ( it's where you don't cut the cord and leave the whole placenta and such attached to the baby until it fall's off ) Has anyone had experience in this ? My husband and I have alway's cut the cord........

Yes, I have heard of this but I don't know anyone personally that has done this. It seems like it would be a real pain to deal with?
My midwife was telling me a lot of people have their placentas dried and encapsulated to take as a supplement after birth. I have also heard of people burying the placenta and planting a tree over it.

Of all the things I have seen during labors, the placenta is one funking looking mass of tissue. I will be letting it finish pulsating before clamping and cutting it...but then it can go to science or something.

But a Family friend took home her placenta, and froze it (Because you can) did you know you can also eat it??
Wel her husband everyday gave her some of her placenta with her Dinner, she didnt know.. and one day saw her Placenta gone from the freezer.. asked where it was, and found out she ate it!

i think it originated from buddhism. and its a beautiful idea. but its not necessarily for nutrients since all the nutrients finish passing when the cord stops pulsating. its to allow the baby to "let go" of the placenta when the baby is ready. and its believed that there's a sort of aura / energy about the placenta.
personally i think its kinda gross :( but since it doesn't hurt the baby that i know (except maybe a higher risk of infection *i* would think but im not sure of) then i say more power to whoever wants to do it although it is yucky.

LOL I know right but we have three dogs and they love anything nasty and one is a work dog so the scent of blood would drive him crazy!  Even if I have a paper cut with one drop of blood he won't leave my side for hours :P so we don't need to bring anything home with the scent of human blood lol

EWWWW @ Sun and the thought of dogs eating it... LOL... Yea I'd be worried too..... IDK I've heard about it as a nurse, but never actually seen it or practiced it.. Just thought I'd get some other opinions on it.

I have heard of it but don't know of anyone who has done it. I think I will delay cord clamping however I don't think I want to come home with the placenta the idea of it makes me a little queasy. Plus I'd be terrified the dogs would eat it :/ it's a neat idea though and I'm sure makes sense for some people

I read about a couple who did it once when I was reading about delayed cord clamping. They said that while they don't regret it, it's a little difficult because once it starts to dry it becomes stiff and might break off early. I'm not too sure how many hospitals allow this. The couple I read about did it with both their children, and one was a home birth and the other was a birthing center.
