no heartbeat

I'm 21 years old and pregnant with my first child. I went to the dr today to ahave an ultrasound. We guessed I was around ten weeks, but the ultrasound said 7 weeks, 3 days. I could be mistaken about my last period, so the 7 weeks could be correct, but there was no heart beat. I had to give blood for hcg tests and have to go back day after tomorrow for more. Has anyone had this happen and the baby actually be living? Is that even a possibility? I still have all the pregnancy symptoms. I even had morning sickness just today.

I don't want to be the one to make you worry more but with my first pregnancy we saw the heartbeat at 6w2d went back at 9 weeks and baby was only measuring 6w4d and now had no heartbeat. I ended up having a missed miscarriage which is where the baby passed but your body for whatever reason doesn't actually miscarry. I continued to have pregnancy symptoms until my hcg level went back to 0.

I had an abdominal and transvaginal ultrasound done, and we got nothing on both. But the doctor said there was definitely something in there and, if we had misjudged how far along I was, it would be the appropriate size. I just felt so discouraged! Thanks so much for your comment!

Generally by 7 weeks you would expect to see a heartbeat.. but not always.. I have read numerous stories on this board about people who didnt see a heartbeat until 8-10 weeks on their scans... Was it a transvaginal ultrasound.  If it wasnt then that could be a factor in it..

I hope some of these people post on here so you can hear their stories.. It is a possibility that your dates were off and your baby is living.  It is also a possibility that you experienced a missed miscarriage.. Where the pregnancy stops developing but you body has not expelled it yet...  Symptoms can continue for weeks after because your body hasnt recognize the lost of the pregnancy yet...  This happen in my first.. at 12 weeks, i measured 7.5 weeks at a scan.. and I had definitely puked the day before and was still have some symptoms...

At this point in time, you cannot really conclude either way.. The nice thing about the HCG draw is that it should give you a better idea of the viability of the pregnancy....  Depending on the initial number, you would expect it to double anywhere from 48-96 hours...  Higher the number, the longer the doubling time that is...

Dont lose hope at this point, because there have been a lot of posts similar to this that turn out positive... Do not make any decisions around this pregnancy without another ultrasound in a week or two because a heartbeat could show even in a day or two... GOod luck and I hope your next scan goes well
