oh my goodness! That's crazy. That is really off....I wonder why they can't get an accurate measurment with u/s?? Kinda crazy...but oh well!
Well, my last baby weighed 9lbs 13ozs. My Dr. didn't have a clue. He didn't think it was going to be quite that big......He was....That's why he plans to induce early. My son had gotten stuck in delivery and two nurses had to put all their weight on my stomach. I guess I'm kind of worried this lil one might be growing too fast. Even with all that, this delivery wasn't horrible (thank goodness for the epidural......minus the spinal headache after delivery).
Same thing happened to my little sister. They took her baby by C-Section because they said her baby was going to be a 10 pounder and he was 6 lb 12 oz. They were WAY off!
My doc checked mine at my last appointment on January 17. I was 24 weeks and he said I measure 23-24, that was the first time they checked mine. At my u/s on the 11th of January I was 23w5d and she said the baby weighed approx 1 lb 3 oz. I know how wrong they can be with u/s estimations though. I watch baby story on Discovery Health and they are usually off on those estimates, of course those estimates are mostly later on in pregnancy.
I don't know if the fundal height is more accurate. The measurment should roughly correlate with the number of weeks you are. My midwife started measuring mine around 20 weeks. At that point I was measuring 22weeks. But at my last appt. I was 25 weeks and measuring right on time. It's different for everyone. I really don't know if that's an accurate way to tell exactly how big the baby is. The further along you get, your OB will know about how big your baby is by feeling the baby. I have heard a lot of times that u/s don;t give you an exact weight mesurment. Heard of a lady who had to be induced because they thought she was going to have a 10pound baby. She ended up delivering a normal 7 pound baby!
