Heart Rate Related to Gender

I know the old wives tale says you can predict the gender of your baby by using the heart rate of your baby during pregnancy. It was said that 140+ beats per minute (BPM) was a girl and under 140 BPM was a boy. I'm just taking a poll to see the accuracy of this wives tale!!!

We are not finding out the sex but the baby measured 11w6d (I was at 11w1d) and the heart rate was 174.....  I do believe that the heart rate will slow down as the baby gets bigger though....  I guess we'll see at our 20w ultrasound what the heart rate is and if this tale is true in early august....

At 8w3d hb was 175, at 12w3d hb was 160's, 16w3d hb was in 160's and at 18w3d u/s where we found out the gender - GIRL, the hb was 140.  Since then, the hb has been anywhere from 140-160.  It was just funny that the day we find out it's a girl the hb was lower.  I think the hb, like other people said, slows down as the baby gets bigger.  But as far as other old wives tales go - the way I'm carrying, the chinese calendar, etc. it all said girl.  The tech and doc told us a few different times it is indeed a girl but I guess we'll find out for sure in a few weeks :)

I did this a few months ago, before we found out we were having a boy.  His heartrate was always in the 150s.  Most of the people who answered my post has boys whose heartrates were 140+.  So, unfortunately, this old wives tale doesn't really hold true.  =(

This was true for me, but i really think that i can go either way.  In my earlier weeks her heartbeat was in the 160s+ and when we found out last month in was in the 150s.  I go back this week, but i am assuming it is just going to keep slowing down the further along i get.

I'm now 28 weeks and 4 days now and I'm having a baby boy.  His heart beat was around 160 in my 1st trimester.  It has been around 150 for a long time now.  So that wise tale is not true.  Babycenter.com has a quiz that ask you about all the old wise tales.  It said I was having a girl.  Anita

This old wives tale is, unfortunately, false- at least according to my doctor and my pregnancy book. With my current pregnancy the heartbeat started out at 167 in the begining, but now that he is almost here it is down to 148. The same happened with my first son.

Ours was at 145 to 150 at the early stage maybe like 12weeks to around 28weeks.  Now at 32weeks it went down to 135 all the time till now and we are having a boy

Its an old wives tale and there is absolutely no accuracy in determining the gender. Your babies heart rate fluctuates based on what she or he is doing. Just like a grown up if he/she is moving around a lot or awake and active the heart rate tends to be a little fast then if he/she is sleeping or resting. In the beginning of pregnancy (6-8 weeks) the heart rate tends to be slower then the norm (90-120) at about 10-13 weeks it tends to be higher then the norm (160-175) but after that it usually stays in the ballpark of 120-160. I had a doppler and was always so concerned about my daughter that I would listen to it everyday. Her heart rate could go from 130-160 in a matter of seconds depending on what she was doing. When she was sleeping it tended to stay around 130 and when she was awake it was always about 155. During labor when I was strapped to the machine it was about 120-125 the whole time.

All the gender predictors that I've done say its going to be a girl.  I kinda want it to be a boy. I'll know in 6 weeks.

This wives tale was wrong for all three of my pregnancy's.  With both of my boys, HR was 145 and 148 respectively.  I am currently pregnant w/ my 1st GIRL!!!, her HR was 128 last visit to the doc.

My baby's hb has always been about 150 and he is definitely a boy!  I think the gender predictors are really 50/50 and just for fun...none of them were right for me lol

it was false for me.  i am having a boy and at first my lil guys heartbeat was always high in the 160's and then after 20 weeks it has been steady in the high 140's low 150's.

My dc said you can't use this until later in pregnancy.  BUt for myself and my brother both of our babies fit this mold.  So I would keep an eye on the BPM and see if it changes.  It will change a bit though!!

my babies heartbeat was 156, 156 and 162. (at obgyn appointments before finding out the sex) This was the only thing that indicated a girl. everyone and everything else said boy. its a girl........so it worked for me, her heartbeat has never been below 145.

I personally don't think it has anything to do with the sex. I think all babies are different, but my doctor (from his experience) guesses the sex of the baby based on the heartbeat. He didn't say what rates, but he said a boy's is stronger. Then again, he has 50% chances of getting it right, but that's what he says, from his experience.
