I really pray that things turn out well for you and your fiance. My Dr said that usually you don't hear the heartbeat until at least 10 weeks and she doesn't do the hearbeat until closer to 12 weeks because it is so disheartening when parents don't hear it. I wish you guys the best of luck.
At 9.5 weeks sadly the baby should be bigger and with an ultrasound you should see not only a yolk sac but a heartbeat as well. It's true that you can't hear the heartbeat with a doppler until about 10 weeks but that externally not internally. I'm so sorry that you are going this please keep us informed.
I really think that maybe you should prepare for the worst because all that doesn't sound good. Definitley have them test the tissue that BEG had said. Best of luck. Please keep us informed
Thanks for the quick response, there was only some clotting the morning of the scan. i don't know whats alot or a little. They are doing another scan next week before making a decision on the dnc. Here are the results from the scan
Ultrasound view: good
Gestational sac present
Yolk sac not visible
Embryo present
Crown-rump length 5.0mm
Heartbeat negative
It doesn't look good, some spotting is sometimes normal, but accompanied by strong cramps is a little more worrisome. If the clotting was relatively large in size I would definately prepare for the worst. I am no doctor but I have been through it. Was the u/s intravaginal? those are the most accurate and should have picked something up (usually by 6 weeks). All this being said, do the next scan, wait and see. I know this isn't encouraging in the least, I sincerely wish you luck. Is there any way the dates could be wrong? There are just so many possibilities. MD's have been wrong before - please don't lose hope completely... I am now 10 weeks and at my 8 week u/s I had to put my fists under my butt to get an acceptable positioning to see the h/b (intravaginal u/s). Let us know how this turns out. Will pray for you, your wife and baby.
I really wish I could give you hope but I can't. With the bad cramping and the blood clots and no heartbeat this sounds to be an early MC I'm so sorry and really give my condolances but may I make a suggestion. Before she quits bleeding have the Doctor take a sample of the tissue she's passing and have them run cultures on it to see if they can find the cause of her MC. I've had 2 MC's now one just 6 weeks ago. And I really wish I'd have had them run tests with the first one but I didn't know. This last one the ran blood tests on me and ran a culture on the tissue I don't have my results yet but they are leaning towards a progestrone defficiency. Again I'm sorry for your loss and your pain. And good luck in the future. oh and I always was told the Heartbeat could be seen at 7 weeks don't know if that's true or not.

well first of all I am sorry to hear this. Usually you can hear the heart beat at almost 10 weeks I heard my little guys heart at 7 weeks during ultrasound. How much clotting was there?? I have heard things where the doctors say there is no heart beat and they say that the women should have a DNC and she refused and a week later at the second Ultrasound the baby was fine. So keep the faith. so they will do another scran right?? was the baby moving at all?? because at 10 weeks my little girl was flipping around on the ultrasound.
