Hey.I'm posting this question in a couple forums as I really need advice. So I got my blood test back and tested positive for down syndrome. I then went to a genetics counselor and she told me my chances are 1-126 I was so hysterical I don't remember anything she said after that.I have an appointment set for the amniocentesis march 13 and I will be 20 weeks pregnant by then.Has anyone ever had one that can tell me what im in for? Any advice would be great.I dont want to lose my baby and i'm scared. Also if anyone knows what 1-126 actually means please let me know. Oh and FISH results?
Thanks so much

ps I'm 30 and have 2 healthy kids

I'm not sure what to say about your reslust.  Cuz my Aunt was 35 when she gave birth to her son and she had the blood test for down syndrom and it came back that ere was a 1 in 500 chance that her son would be born with down syndrom, well he came out and had down sydrom.

There is some things to concider when thinking about the test, do you or you man have a history of downs in your family and I mean your extencive family... cuz after we found out that he did have downs, we were doing some research about our family and found out that my 4 or 5 cousin had downs and only lived until he was 12, but that was about 40 years ago.  So my major advice is not to freak out, there is no risk of losing your baby, at least not this early plus if you're almost 20 weeks, the doctors can step in and give you meds to keep him/her in you longer.  Also I wouldn't worry too much about the test, once you have the baby, regardless of what happens you will love him/her.  It will be tough, however, there is alot of goverment help and grants and many other things that your doctors will be able to help you with.  In addition to that there is thearpys for your baby that the doctors will give you information about that as well.  So good luck and I hope this helps a little bit.

I wish you luck. I would never do another amnio in my life, but thats my choice. I got so sick from the pain, but i was much farther along than u, 37wks, and my stomach was stretched as tight as it could be. So maybe that contributed to the pain. I'd definitely not watch and look away or else u might freak and get sick.
