nausea- do you fight it or give in

it's getting bad. i thought it was bad before... but it's worse now. Worse than when i had the stomach bug. I HATE vomitting. I always fight it as long as possible, and usually can. But, would I feel better if I just allowed myself to puke? Does vomitting give you relief? I do vomit in the morning when pregnant, but that is just phlegm that I always seem to get when pregnant. Since my stomach is completely empty then, i gag, bring it up, and go on with my day. But this is a different kind of nausea- i know if i start puking everything will come up. but, if it means feeling better for a couple of hours, I may consider it.

If you have the need to throw up, go ahead; you do get instant relief; at least I did. Even now when I'm sick and feel the need, I give in because even though I hate it, I know I will feel better right away. Don't fight it. Eat saltine crackers to help with the nausea. Good luck!

I have noticed that if I dont puke the nausea just sticks around like a annoying little pest. I am 15 weeks 3 days preggo and I am STILL battling the "morning sickness" that last all day and more at night. I know everyone is different but I am sure my little blessing is letting me know... "hey mom i am still here!"  and then i vomit.

I didn't really have the choice most days but yes, I did feel better after vomiting (for a short time).
I am over all of that now but I still can floss or brush my back teeth very well. I tried to floss today and I was gagging like crazy, I did manage to keep my breakfast down since I didn't want to have to brush my teeth all over again and start this vicious cycle.

I am a sucker and will always give in.  When I was pregnat I would throw up 2x a day.  Once in the morning and once after work.  Did I really need too???  Probably not, but I thought it made me feel better and it became routine, yuck.  The last week of morning sickness (10-11wks preggo) I was throwing up all day long and couldnt hold anything down.  Got on Zofran and it didnt help me, but I think it mentally made me stop throwing up as much.  Then at 11 wks or so...it just stopped for me and I felt a million times better.  I still cant eat at my favorite restaurants though.  It has almost been two years...LOL, you think I would be over it by now!

Oh yeah - the empty stomach thing (coupled with effects of that such as low blood sugar) is one reason why many women tend to feel the worse in the women.  Hence the term "morning sickness".

I too HATE vomiting and will do anything to prevent it - I have thrown up on 3 separate occasions in the last 13 years!

During pregnancy I fought the nausea - I was worried if I vomited it will start a viscous cycle.  In my case, I found that FOOD actually helped me and the nausea would be much, much, much worse when I hadnt eaten for a certain amount of time and my stomach was empty.  I would sometimes feel awful right after eating but would "bare with it", fought the vomit urge, and about 30 mins later felt  fine.  Of course everyone is different as is every pregnancy........................ Ultimately, I got through my pregnancy without throwing up once LOL.

zofran didn't do too much for me the first time i was pregnant, but it helps others so i am hoping it will help more this time. last time it didn't lessen the nausea, but it did prevent me from vomitting.

I say if it brings you relief, do it.  I hate it too, but when I am pregnant, I almost get used to it as sad as that sounds :(  But there are times that I just feel like I'm going to freakin die and just wish I could get a little relief and if that meant throwing up, then so be it.

I have never taken the Zofran, but have taken Phenegran (sp???).  Does the Zofran work??  The thing I don't like about the Phenegran, is that it makes you sooooooo sleepy.  Not easy when you just cut off the caffine and then working too with little ones at home.  I don't need anything else to make me sleepy :)

Suzie- funny you mention teeth brushing... i just decided not to do it tonight because i know it'll make me hurl. i tried 3 nights ago and ended up waking up in the middle of the night to pee and brushing then.

Since i'm in bed (so early on a Saturday... what life??), i think i'll probably be able to make it through the day without vomitting. we'll see what tomorrow brings. Monday i am back at work, and for some reason I do better at work (well, i did with my last pregnancy- maybe cause it's so busy?) Monday night I have my appointment and I may ask for Zofran again.

It's not fun- but it is what I signed up for! It's a slight relief since I have been very nervous about this pregnancy for some reason. It's proof that i'm pregnant. I'm just looking for hints on how to cope with it! the typical tricks didn't seem to help today.

I cry when I throw up... I stuck to the ginger ale and saltines...
This time, brushing my teeth caused all my gagging and heaving.  There were a couple nights that I was sure I would lose it so I skipped my nighttime brush (ewww). I always brushed in the morning and mid afternoon but the nighttime one was just too much sometimes.
I am just shy of 15 weeks and the heaving is almost gone -

I knew if I knelt before the toilet that I would be able to puke but I always tried to hold it together and not encourage myself...I do not like to vomit...but if it doesn't bother you (which you said you hate it) and you think you might get relief, give a go.  You'd have to decide which would be the lesser evil.

For me, my nausea would be worse when I had an empty stomach so vomiting would have made me worse...I'd try to eat some carbs and gingerale and see if that helps...Good luck!
