After methotrexate for ectopic

I was diagnosed in 5/08 with a possible ectopic. I received a single dose of methotrexate on 5/20/08. My hcg dropped to 0 within a week 1/2. I didn't start really "bleeding" heavily until almost 4 weeks after the shot (I had consistent light bleeding until then). Not sure if it was a period... etc. My doc has insisted that I start taking birth control.. but I have a big issue with taking it. As of this past Friday, the bleeding has stopped. Now, I have cramping and only light bleeding during the cramping. Is there an explaination for this? Are the 2 connected?

Thanks Joy. I agree that this is why he wanted me on the pill... This whole experience has just been so scary and frustrating. I have always had a thing against the pill... now I'm 30, a smoker, and have family history of heart attack, heart disease, and stroke.

I think my body is on the path to recovery at this point. ::crossing fingers:: Thanks for listening.

If anyone else has been through this... please.. I'll take all the info you can offer:)

The bleeding was from the methotrexate. It was, for lack of better words, flushing out your uterine lining and the baby.

I am also against BC pills and I just told my doctor that I was not going to take them. They can't force you. Your doctor wants to regulate your hormones quickly and that's why they are recommending the BC. It is possible to get on the lowest dosage possible for one cycle to regulate so you stop bleeding like this. It seems like a long time to have bleeding, but I'm not familiar with ectopic pregnancies.

also, so there is no confusion, I did NOT start taking the pill. The bleeding stopped on it's own. So, I am just curious, for those that have been through this... did you bleed as long as I did? And how long until your cycles were back to normal???
