I think it depends on who will be there :-) Most of my friends/family are older adults (28+), so they're all financially stable & most have had children before.. I'm not sure what I'll get, but I've looked at the registry & no one has bought any of that stuff (onesies, toys).. I put a bunch on there because I want people to have cheap options too, but everyone has bought the big things - stroller, crib, bassinet, car seat, high chair, pack and play, carrier. I have three friends my age (early 20s) & I know my best friend will get me something sentimental, not sure about the other two though :-) I think it all just depends on the means and experience of those invited!
I got a lot of clothes, toys, diapers, wipes, lotions, powder baby wash, 2 boppy pillows, things like that. I already had most of the big stuff I needed so I told people what to get. :)
A lot of people who went to my shower don't have kids so the things they bought me was NB clothes (which I returned half) and toys. I didn't get any bottles or diapers. I was expecting a lot more of things I would need and asked for. Don't feel bad if you return stuff. I had to return a lot of things
I also got lots of clothes for a newborn so I saved recipes and took some back and got bigger sizes bc they will grow out of infant clothes fast and you will still have to clothe them for a long time.
You can get raffle tickets at the dollar store and when you are writing your invitations just put on the side or make a separate note to put in there that you will be holding a diaper raffle so if they bring a box of diapers they will receive a raffle ticket and be entered to win a drawing. When a guest arrives that brought diapers hand them the raffle ticket and put the stub in a bowl, at the end or when your doing games, draw a stub from the bowl and the winner gets a prize.
I got 35 washcloths altogether at my baby shower.. lots of outfits, lotions, shampoos, blankets and i got 5 memory books. If you have family coming they might get the bigger items like carseat or stroller if they can afford it. I suggest registering at babies r us becaude you can take alot of stuff back and get store credit without a reciept
How do you do a diaper raffle? I'm the only girl in my family so I have no one to teach me this stuff lol
If you want a lot of diapers, do a diaper raffle. Write in the invites that each person who brings diapers will get a raffle ticket and could win a prize. I got a lot of diapers doing that and I gave the winner a Starbucks gift card.
Things in the $12 to $45 range, mostly. Cute outfits, more hats than the baby will ever wear, and blankets. The one woman who got me a changing pad (to go in the changing table) was sheepish because it was so utilitarian, but I loved getting it because really, who needs another cute baby outfit when you have already gotten 12 of them?
If you have wealthier friends, expect some surprises if you are registered online. Out of the blue came a jogging stroller, brought by the UPS man. So not all gifts are small. But my shower was just neighbors, and they didn't have a lot invested in me getting the baby's swing, or play yard, or Arm's Reach Bassinette.
depends on the person purchasing the items you might have a parent or something that gets larger items for you but most guests are just going to get you diapers wipes clothes the necessities.you can also register and let people know that you want things to be bought off of registry also good thing to put on there is gift cards
