I got to seen my midwife every single appointment unlike my ob he was always in surgery. I only saw my ob twice the whole time I was pregnant. My midwife explained every test to me before had unlike my nurse she wouldn't tell me anything until they already tested me. My midwife believed in me when I said I wanted a drug free birth instead of my ob laughing at me saying "that's what all women say." My midwife made her schedule work around my time unlike my ob who was trying to move my schedule around.
Midwives are more personable and OB's (depending on where you go...) have patients booked every half hour so food luck spending quality time with the dr. Not saying they are all that way, I just trust a midwife that actually has time for me.
I had an OB with my first, i loved him but trieda mmidwife with my second, she was too... "hippie" for me, lol, so I went back to my doc who spent time with me and explained all my questions over and over until my thick skull absorbed the info
theres a really interesting documentary called 'the business of being born' its on youtube, and talks a lot about the benefits of midwives and how they encourage you to have a natural birth rather than an OB who will do unnecessary interventions just to get women in and out as quick as possible
My midwife is terrible and not personable my ob however is amazing and cares and remembers everything so I requested to only see my ob from now on
