Ugh.  I will tell you that some labor and delivery nurses are great and some are not so great.  They can talk to you in almost a smug way because they see a lot of women that are going through a lot of discomfort right before childbirth and are immune to it.

Let me just tell you this.  A charge nurse was fired for her treatment of me.  She flippantly sent me home with a sleeping pill when I swore to that I was in labor, something was not right.  I had contractions on a regular basis but not close together.  She told me with a haughty laugh that while docs say to come into L&D when  contractions are 5 min apart, people really shouldn't come in until contractions are 2.5 minutes apart in her opinion.  I was 10 days late at this point and she said I could still go another 2 weeks (four weeks past my due date??? ) if my cervix didn't open up.

Well, I took my sleeping pill, left the hospital and promptly vomited up.  It seems that I vomit with pain and spent the next 20 hours contracting and vomiting and REALLY becoming dehydrated.  I was so sick by the time my husband said to heck with the advice that nurse gave us, we are going in.  Good thing.  I was in active labor but had an issue with my cervix.  No doctor was called to check me the first time I went in----  the doctor who saw me the next day was irrate.  I had what they call latent phase labor and my baby boy started to have stress and heart rate issues.

All turned out alright, but that nurse lost her job.  She gave bad advice and delivered it in a condensending way.

My son has a developmental delay----  I'll never know if it is because of his difficult delivery but that is listed as a possible cause for his issues.

So, I feel your pain and remember, if something really feels wrong, make a big deal about it.  good luck

I was dialated to 3 contractions 10 minutes apart for 4 days before they finally induced me because my heart rate was so fast. I have no idea why doctors think we are so stupid that they can just say things and we'll go oh ok. Go in there and tell them you are done and if they send you home you are signing directly back in and will until they stop this misery lol. I'm sorry you are uncomfortable those last few weeks are hell

If they don't take a sample how in the heck can they say ur dehydrated?????!!!!!!!  Did the use some Vulcan mind trick??????(lol yes I am a star trek nerd!) I am sorry u are so uncomfortable.  With number two I was dilated to a 5 for a week.  I was miserable contracting every 8 minutes.  Finally I pitched a fit and so did dh and they induced.  Baby was born in about an hour.  If all else fails throw a big tantrum! Lol good luck to u.
