It all depends on the person and pregnancy. With my daughter I had no signs I was going to go into labor. I started not feeling good so I had her dad make me noodles and we tried to lay down to go to sleep and then I started feeling contractions a minute apart. She was born almost 3 hours later. With my son, I lost the mucus plug, which is a big ball of mucus. It can look like snot, and it could have a pink tinge to it. I also had bloody show for almost 24 hours, and then I started having contractions that didn't hurt at all and weren't doing anything. Then I started feeling contractions every 10-17 minutes, but my mom had me go get checked just in case. I was actually getting contractions every 2 minutes and my son was born almost 2 hours later. Most doctors and midwives will tell you to come in when you are having contractions that are 5 minutes apart lasting 1 minute each time for an hour, or if you can't walk or talk though them that you are in active labor. But trust your instinct. With my son they weren't anywhere close to 5 minutes apart that I could feel and I was still able to walk and talk.

If you're having contractions & you feel like they are labor contractions trying going to the bathroom & when you wipe look at the tissue if you see mucous like really thick discharge with a brown pink or red streak in it that is called bloody show/mucous plug which would mean your cervix is open

It just depends on the person, you could be experiencing painful contractions then your mucous plug comes out & is tinged with blood or some people get nausea & have some vomiting but usually any combination of any of these things could confirm labor for you
