Whether or not to circumcise is a very personal decision, and should be based on many factors, including discussions with your doctor, selected pediatrician, the baby's father, and your own religious, cultural and medical issues.  We urge each person to do their own research and come to a decision that is best for your child and family.

Like everyone has said yes it is ultimately your choice.

I had my son circumsized the healing process was really short and I think it only took a few days.
When I was in the hospital to have my son my father had just gotten his procedure done and he was out for almost 2 weeks because the older you get the harder the healing process is.
My best friend told me hee husband was not circumsized when he was born so later on he had a lot of problems with it so he had his done when he was young I think about 10 or so he had a lot of infections even while trying to keep it clean but being a boy and being outside and sweating he decided to do the procedure and he hasn't regretted it since.

Whatever decision you make just remember that it is your choice and it can always be changed in the long run.

Its not something practiced routinely here in Ireland.  But I'm not sure of the laws around it.

I don't  understand how anyone can justify circumcision - yet the same people who agree with circumcision of a boy would bash someone circumcising a girl.

Its the same thing!

Exactly Ash. It is absolutely absurd to think that because babies don't have a voice to speak up, circumcision doesn't hurt them. I guarantee if they could talk, they would beg to not have their most sensitive body part cut off as a newborn. It is equally absurd to have the mentality that because they don't remember the pain, it's okay.

Circumcision is already illegal by the 14th amendment however the outlaw of only female genital mutilation is currently enforced. I for one want to be on the right side of history when it is banned in America.

I recently read something online wrote by a guy who said he wishes he hadn't been circumcised .. as it wasn't his choice.

I'll repeat it for those like @hannah_sweg

"If society think its fine to circumcise an infant because they don't remember it , is it ok for me to rape a woman - as long as she doesn't remember it? "

Hannah, just because they are a baby doesn't mean they don't feel pain. Just because they don't remember it when they are older doesn't make it okay either.

My friends midwife strongly recommends against routine infant circumcision because she watched a baby go into shock and pass away (from hemorrhage) after his circumcision.

Babies are born with foreskin because it serves many purposes in conjunction with the part it goes with. This is not just extra skin...This is a natural, functioning body part parents are consenting to cutting off. It's crazy.

People who claim it hurts the baby. No. It doesn't.
Ask some one who was circumcised as a baby if they remember it.
Then ask a man who got it done later in life whether it be at 3 or 4 or even 20;
THEY remember it. It heals different as you get older so if you do decide to do it please dont wait. When they're babies is heals 3938383944 times as fast and being circumcised really is cleaner and more people like it.
If you're having trouble, ask an unbiased midwife to explain both sides to you.

It is easier to clean an intact penis than a circumcised one. Fact.

Also, it does not protect from infections nor does circumcising keep women from getting bacterial infections. That is all lies.

It protects from infections also. Even though nobody wants to think about their little boy having sex but he could give females bacterial infection.  I agree with what someone said earlier. We're doing it because hubby is circumcised and we don't know jow to clean one that's not.

I definitely won't circumcise my son...
I don't know anyone with it done except one little toddler who had it done because medical issues.

I live in Ireland and I know for a fact its unnecessary unless there is a valid medical reason.
Look up intactism on google - very interesting.

America and Israel circumcise nowhere else.

Circumcision is a personal choice but I believe it is a personal choice only for the owner of the body part. It is not cleaner, it does not protect any better against STD's than a condom,  and there is not a single medical organization in the world that recommends infant circumcision.

America is one of the only countries who preforms infant circumcision and doctors from England don't recommend it for anything but medical necessity. Believe me, the benefits advertised in America are simply not as hyped up as they seem.

Somehow men in other countries can take care of their body without having any of it cut off at birth.

Obviously we will not be circumcising.  I haven't seen anything that shows it has significant benefits other than cosmetics to put a newborn in that kind of pain when they're only a couple days old.

Im having a boy in November and that was a big question for me because my bf isnt circumsized and he doesnt want our son to be but i read that it can be better in the long run and you just have to be careful bathing him in that area for about 10 days. So i've decided to get him circumsized and my bf is ultimately okay with ny decision.

I would never circumsize my baby boy! Painful for them and completely unnecessary.. Under the foreskin is in most cases not hard to clean. No one I know is circumsized and none that I know of have any problems at all :)

Not doin it can create problems later on.  Its goin to b more painful. My son was fine the next day, during it was horrible but little boys aren't too clean. He won't remember it so it won't b traumatic. He could get teased for his penis wearing a turtle neck. And it would hurt a lot more later then it would now.

I am because his dad is circumsized and it's a short healing process for something that will in my opinion be better in the long run.
Since my boyfriend is circumsized we wouldn't know how to teach him to clean the skin or any of that

Im having a son and hubby and i wont be circumcising either.

They say its for heigene, but my husband isnt circumsized and he says hes never had a problem, also that extra skin helps to protect the head of the penis and theres more sensation there when not circumsized.

Circumcision comes down to your preference, but you also have to take into account that it aids in helping keep them cleaner down there. Young boys who are uncircumcised are at a greater risk for infections and UTIs. Also, if he someday decides in the future to go through with it, the healing process is much more painful and traumatic to the tissue.
