Teen Pregnancy

I'm writing this because my roommate is about a month pregnant right now. She's 18 years old, and in school.. She seems pretty convinced that she wants to have it and keep it (she can't go through with abortion, and doesn't want to have a baby in the world that's hers that she doesn't know).

I'm trying to find information about various options she may have, but I don't really know where to look.

On top of that, she isn't eating or sleeping at all. I've tried to do everything to convince her to sleep or fulfill her cravings but nothing works because as soon as she gets what she wanted, she doesn't want it anymore. She also doesn't want to tell her mom even though she needs her soo much right now.

I'm trying to do a good job in being a supportive friend, but I really don't know what to do or what to expect! I'd love any help and advise that anyone could give me.

To be honest with you, you should just let her do her own thing. Putting yourself in the middle of this could risk your friendship with her. I didn't have any cravings or really eat at all in the first month of my pregnancy. Although, you sound like a good friend pushing her to do stuff that she may not feel comfortable doing is wrong. You need to let her decide whats wrong and whats right for her. Being a best friend would be supporting her with whatever decision she makes. Good Luck!

You sound like a wonderful friend. The craving's are normal, and so is not wanting the food once it's there. She needs to keep crackers, toast and stuff like that around to eat whenever she can. Make sure she knows to take her prenatals and folic acid which are VERY important right now.

the sleeping thing COULD be normal... but she may also be dealing with depression about things. You should encourage her to talk to her doctor, or a counsellor at school.

Just be there for her, let her rant when she wants and talk to her supportively. it's the best thing you could do right now.  continue encouraging her to talk to her mother, sometimes moms are the best ppl to talk to.
