Hope I can make it through the memorial….
She had a sono at 20 weeks when she tried to find out what the baby was, and one at about 30 weeks also…Im not sure who did the ultrasound, I know that the Dr she goes to is a good Dr and was my daughter's doctor…so I dont know if his nurse took over during it because of a call…It's all so confusing, and scary considering my little sister is pregnant with her first child and I dont want anything to happen to her as well…..
I completely agree with AmyG. All of this should have been detected. Especially the arms and kidneys. As she said the sonographer checks all of these things. My nephew was born with only one kidney and they knew this from her 20 week sono. She may very well have a malpractice suit. My SIL sued her OBGYN for not properly diagnosing my neice with her heart defect and brain deformation. The hospital told her it should have been detected on the sonosand blood work. She won her case because of this. She should have had atleast 2 sonos that were very thorough by 32 weeks. Her 20 weeks should have picked up all of this. Im sorry for her loss. She will be in my prayers.
I am so sorry this is heartbreaking. I don't understand how the Dr's were not able to see this on ultrasound. When I had my 20 week development ultrasound the technician checked EVERYTHING. They showed us the kidneys, bladder, heart chambers, etc. so I really don't understand how this was missed in your friends case. Did she have the "big" ultrasound around 20 weeks?
Again I'm so sorry, I can't even imagine what your friend is going through right now.
