Baby's stomach not found during ultrasound
I went in for my 2nd prenatal ultrasound at week 19. The ultrasound tech. told me that she was unable to find the stomach, may be because the baby just emptied it. She spent about an hour looking for the stomach. She asked me to come back in 2 weeks. I was wondering, is that possible that the fetus does not have a stomach, if yes, then what happens? Has anyone ever come across such an issue? Please help.
How long has this tech been doing u/s? Did she show an actual doctor of imaging? Cause if it was serious there would have been the actual doctor come in and check and you would have been refered to a specialist. Just hang in there for 2 more weeks and find out!
She was fairly new. She spent an hour looking for the stomach, then she had a senior technician come in to see if she could find it. But no luck. They say that it happens sometimes, but from what I read on the internet, 50% of the times it is an abnormal pregnancy. God bless me and my baby.

I have no expert advice to offer, but I will pray for you and your baby. I really hope you find some wonderful news in two weeks!
Thanks alot guys. I'm hoping that there is nothing wrong with the baby and the baby was just hiding its tummy.

mama09 Just remember... if there is any problems with the pregnancy, there are usually ways to work things out and make things better, be it surgery/therapy. whatnot.
if youve read my posts my boy has down syndrome and a hole in his heart... we found out about the hole the day he was delivered, after already being told his heart was fine. he's got surgery coming up and it should fix things completely.

i would try not to stress too much and wait for the next ultrasound. if they were very worried they would have had you come back in the next day. i know many women have trouble with the 18-20 week US screening because sometimes the baby does not cooperate to get the perfect pictures and sometime sthe timing is not right. the baby could ahve just emptied its stomach.
to be honest with you, i do not even remember the tech showing me my baby;s stomach, she did show me his kidneys and full bladder which she said was very important but not the stomach.
