No periods, not pregnant

I am 24 years old. I haven't got my periods for the past 3 months (after marriage), but not pregnant. I met the doctor for pregnancy test when I missed the periods for the 1st month, it was negative. She said the ovaries are normal. But after that two months passed, I did not get my periods yet. I have lower abdominal pain at regular intervals for the past 1 week, but still no periods. So what could be the problem? And in order to be pregnant, do I need to get the periods 1st or is that not necessary? Kindly help.
