OT- woman pulled over for breastfeeding and talking on the phone while driving

Have you guys heard about this woman in Ohio who was dropping her kids off at school when another parent noticed she was breastfeeding, talking on the phone, and driving?! They called the cops and she got a ticket. Her response is classic... "If my child's hungry, I'm going to feed it."

I've been there trying to get a kid to school with a screaming baby in the backseat. One thing at a time, pull over maybe and feed the baby for a minute. If she got into an accident that baby would be crushed between her and the airbag. It just seems so crazy and then add to the whole mix talking on the phone!! How was she even driving the car?

Some people are just so stupid it scares me.

I know what you ladies mean about leaving kids in the car... the other day I was stopping to grab groceries when I noticed car lights on in front of me (I'm one of those people who tell someone to put it over the PA so someone doesn't kill their car battery because it happened to me once)... then I noticed the car was on, so I was like "no biggie, start the car from the grocery store with a remote starter because it's FREEZING"... But then I noticed a child (about 3-5 years old) sitting in the back seat and not a living soul anywhere around. Then this guy walks out of the grocery store about a minute later (I had to wait and see what happened) and opens the car door to get in and drives off.

All of this is alarming to me because the car was left UNLOCKED, and RUNNING while a child sits in the back seat ALONE... ANYONE could have gotten into that car and driven off with that helpless little child.

It just bothers me SO MUCH how pepole are so irresponsible with kids. Makes me wonder how todays children are going to be by the time they are in their 20's, learning from these terrible habits.

I know! How do people leave their children in cars alone?? I could NEVER even think about doing that. Even if I am running into a wawa or something, and I can see my car and everything, I would never do that. So what if it takes an extra 3-5 minutes with buckling and everything, it's worth it to have your child at the end of the day, right? Some people are just so irresponsible!

Wow! That's terrible! I'm glad someone called the cops. I sure hope she doesn't do that again!
While I was out yesterday, I noticed someone left their toddler in the car, with the windows rolled down so he wouldn't get hot in there, but the kid was alone!!! He could have been kidnapped!!! I just could NOT believe people still do that kind of irresponsible thing! My goodness!

I agree I had my son a month after I turned 19 and I knew I was going to need help so I read every parenting book I could get my hands on. Before I could leave the hospital they made all first time moms go through a class to talk about things like don't leave your baby in the car with the windows rolled up. It was all basic, but it seems like some people really need it.

I am so very serious. I was young when I got pregnant but I read every magazine and baby book I could get my hands on, plus I grew up raising neighborhood babies and toddlers. Knowledge is power. If that woman had gotten into an accident, her child probably would have died, no doubt about it. They would have been smashed in the neck with that steering wheel.

I won't even get into the people who leave their children in cars, no matter for how short a period of time. Not only could they die from the heat but they could be kidnapped!

THATS SOOOO TRUE!  I think that people need to educated BEFORE having kids.  This is really a "no brainer".  You would think that there are some things that people should not have to be told not to do.  Some people have really been slapped with the stupid stick.  Anita

I did hear this story the other day on MedHelp Social Forum. So I went to read the article and she got upset with the police. She thought they had an issue with her breastfeeding in public but the truth was that they had an issue with the safety of her child.

People need to take CLASSES before they take their children home from the hospital after birth.

I don't think that it would be "extreme" at all!  People have their kids taken for MUCH less!  I really don't think that this is a " mistake".  A "mistake" is not life threatening! If you don't have BRAINS to know not to drive and nurse then you don't need children!  People have their kids taken all the time even though the kids were not in harms way.  The baby could had been killed!  My point is that I think it should had been looked into AT LEAST.  THANKS GOD... some one called the cops!  I work with kids and I have seen mothers this before... it really gets under my skin.   I have a friend that lost her kids because the place she was staying in was small!  Her and her 2 kids all lived in a 1 room apartment.  It was clean and the kids were well taken care of.  She worked all the time so the kids had to go to the baby sitter so she could work 2 jobs.  And she had no help at all.  My point being is.... If this is considered a "mistake" by the law... how dose this classify as a mistake?  Sorry for going on an on... I have not slept in days... lol. I'm just amazed what people consider a mistake.   Anita

WOW!!!! I would have never even thought of that one! lol. That is just VERY dangerous. I don't think a child should ever be taken out of a carseat or buckle while driving! wow...pull over next time! It's very simple. Maybe a ticket will get her thinking...

I think a ticket is sufficient. Some people probably do worse things at home that no one ever sees.

I think that removing her kids is a little extreme. However that was not a smart thing she did.  Most parents do dumb mistakes but that doesn't mean that they are horrible parents.
I hope her ticket makes her realize how irresponsible she was.

They should had took her kids for child endangerment!  If she would had crashed that baby would had been killed!  The baby would had been crushed by the wheel.  People can be so stupid!  Wow.... is all I can say to this.  Anita
