PLEASE HELP. NOT PROPERLY INFORMED.

I HAVE A QUESTION. SEPTEMBER 29 I FOUND OUT I WAS PREGNANT, A WEEK BEFORE I WENT TO THE DR FOR SOME BLOOD WORK. ON THE 29 THEY DID AN ULTRASOUND AND DETERMINED I WAS 6WEEKS AND 4 DAYS. I WENT BACK A WEEK LATER TO SPEAK WITH THE MIDWIFE AND GET ALL THE INFORMATION, BEING THAT THIS IS MY FIRST PREGNANCY. AND THEN OCT 8, I HAD MORE BLOOD WORK DONE. I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT WAS TO CHECK AND MAKE SURE THE BABY AND I DIDN'T HAVE ANY STDS. AS OF TODAY I'M 8WKS AND 3 DAYS. BUT MY QUESTION IS, I HEAR A LOT OF WOMAN TALK ABOUT THEIR HCG LEVELS. WHAT IS THAT? AND WHY IS IT THAT MY DR NEVER INFORMED ME OF MY LEVELS? IS IT NECESSARY TO KNOW?

I never found out any of my hcg levels or much else with my pregnancy with my son. After having 3 miscarriages after him though I make sure I stay much more informed. It is the drs way to make sure everything is going well in early pregnancy. Sometimes ultrasounds are unreliable and symptoms of possible problems may mean nothing so checking the hcg levels give a more accurate result of what is going on. If your dr hasn't told you what your levels are it is more than likely because everything is going well and there is no reason to make you worry about the specific numbers for nothing :)

No, you don't have to know them. I never found them out with my daughter. Some doctors test for them, generally in early pregnancy before ultrasound can be done. After that point there's no need to check them because ultrasound tells more.

hCG levels are the hormone produced when a female is pregnant. In a typical pregnancy they will double every 48 hours or so.
