My partner and I have been having sex on a regular basis.  Although, I had a scare last week ... I had some spotting so I went to see my midwife.  I also had some charlie horse like pains in my sides when I stood up or switched positions too fast (everyday movement).  So, I made an appointment and she gave me an ultrasound.. the baby was moving around and kicking.. he/she was actually turning his/her head and putting his/her hand in its mouth.  =)  She said the spotting came from my cervix... it had gotten a little irritated from sex.  She told me it was normal because the tissue of the cervix is soft right now... softer than normal.  The charlie horse like pain is Round Ligament pain which I read should start happening in like week 14 or so, mine just came a little early.  I was 12 weeks 4 days when I had the ultrasound last week.

All the new feelings are so scary right now.  I have become very intuned with my new body and new feelings.  It's an amazing feeling.

Yes, sex is safe throughout pregnancy, unless your doctor tells you to refrain from it.

Sex is fine. As long as there is no previous problems, or bleeding etc then its safe. Sometimes its more that you dont feel like it because you feel so fragile, symptoms can make it the last thing on your mind. You cant harm your new baby. Its protected. I work with a midwife, and she says if all is well you can run a marathon!!! Its deep in your pelvis.
