Today I'm turned 17 weeks. My back hurt so bad and the pain is shooting down to my butt. Is this normal? If I sit to long and get up I'm in so much pain.

shooting pain going down the bum or legs is usually sciatica....  when you have sciatica pain before your 50 it is caused by the fluids between the spinal columns squeeze out and get all over the nerves which causes the shooting pains.. thats why it is common when pregnant cause the compression... when you get the pain after 50 years of age it is causd because that fluid has dried out and the bones are compressing together.... its just one of those things that everyone will have to deal with at some time r another....

I had the hip pain with my second pregnancy and it was terrible... but the pain was very localized to my hip and lower back

good luck and i hope that the pain subsides for you

I had to go to the er because I had the same pain they told me it was the sciatica, but its not my obgyn told me its your hip muscles that are been pinched. What he told me to do was to stretch it out. I did help it got better in three days. When its the sciatic nerve the pain starts from your upper back and it run thru your toes. you can take tylenol for the pain or you can put bengay.
